$1,100 Build - Thoughts? in Desktops ·
Hey guys,

I just put together this build:

Corsair 16 GB kit (2x8 GB) DDR4 2666 MHz Vengeance Black, CMK16GX4M2A2666C16
Samsung 970 Evo 500 GB, PCIe NVMe, M.2 80mm, MZ-V7E500BW
Western Digital WD20EZRZ 3.5" 2 TB Internal HDD, 5,400 rpm
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Jetstream, 8GB, DDR5, DVI, HDMI, DP
Intel Core i7-8700 (Hexa Core, 3.20 GHz, 12 MB, LGA1151 CL) box
NZXT H500 white case without PSU, ATX
Dell SE2717H 27'' Monitor, 1920x1080, FHD, IPS Anti-glare, 16:9, 1000:1, 8000000:1, 300cd/m2, 6ms, 178/178, HDMI, VGA, Tilt, 3Y
EVGA Series TX550 550W, 80+ Gold
Asus Prime Z370-P ii, s1151, ATX

I'm grabbing this specific monitor mainly because I already own one just like it. I need dual monitors for work, so keeping them identical makes sense. The motherboard wasn't my first choice either, but they didn't have the Asus Z-370-P in stock, so I went with this one.
Also, I know AMD Ryzen is the better move right now, but I'm just not ready to jump ship from Intel yet.

The PC will be used for rendering, ray tracing, and 2D/3D modeling.

Wanted to get your thoughts on this? Everything is being assembled at Micro Center.

Thanks!

Best PC build for $1,500? in Desktops ·
So, here's the deal. I was thinking about picking up this monitor from Dell -

Basically, I need a rig for rendering and 3D modeling. Most newer software leans on the GPU for real-time work and final renders, so I really need a solid graphics card. On the flip side, I’m still actively using V-Ray, which relies on the CPU for rendering, so having a strong processor is also high on my list.

As for gaming—I’m not much of a gamer. I might install something once a year just for fun, but I’m pretty sure anything stronger than an Intel Core i5 paired with an Nvidia GTX 1060 should handle most things just fine.

I’m trying to keep the total cost, including the monitor, under $1,200.

Anyway, that’s the gist of it. 🙂 Thanks.

Hey there!

I’m looking to put together a new build. My budget is around $1,500—I can stretch it a little if necessary, so no big deal—but I’d love to hear what you guys would recommend for that price point.

I saw a similar thread recently, but I’m a bit confused. It seems like everyone is pushing Core builds, and I’m just wondering why. Not that I have anything against other brands, it just caught my eye. Also, if we're talking about a $1,500 setup, why wouldn't we go for the top-tier processor instead of an i5?
I know these questions might sound a bit naive, but I'm still pretty new to all this.

Anyway, is it possible to pull together an i7 configuration for about $1,500 with a solid graphics card? Ideally something more powerful than a GTX 1060.

Thanks in advance for the help!
Which PSU should I buy? in Desktops ·
Alright, I'll give it a shot and let you know how it goes. Just one more thing—the GTX 770 requires one 6-pin and one 8-pin connector. Right now, all I have left on my power supply is that 6+2 pin connector (the one where the 2 pins sit right next to the 6). Should I pick up an adapter for an 8-pin or a 6-pin? Or does it really not matter at all?

Also, why do these Molex adapters only have three pins for a 4-pin connector? If you look at the photo, there are only three of those little yellow strips inside. Is that actually normal?

EDIT: I just realized the card actually has two 8-pin connectors. It’s this specific GTX 770 model: https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/N7...-specification

Is it still a safe bet to plug this into the CX430?

Thanks, everyone. :\\\\\

Haha, if only I could get a written guarantee on this advice 😁 Thanks for the help regardless

Seriously?

I've been scrolling through forums for hours now, and honestly, I'm starting to feel like I'll just fry everything if I try to run this on my current power supply.

I mean, my CPU hits 99% usage pretty often during work. If the GPU starts pulling its full weight alongside all the other components, isn't there a real risk of burning out the whole system?

😕😕😕

One more thing; does my Corsair unit even have the right power adapters for a GTX 770?

Hey there!

I picked up a PC about six months ago with these specs:

Intel Core i3 6100
Asus H110M-R
Patriot Viper4, 2400Mhz, 8GB (2x4GB), CL15
Kingston 240GB SSD, UV400 SATA 3 Bulk
Corsair Builder Series CX 80+ Bronze, 430 Watt, ATX, EPS12V, PS/2, US Version

So, here's the situation. When I first built this, I planned on adding a GPU about six months down the line. My setup is strictly for 3D rendering—specifically using the Vray rt engine, which relies heavily on CUDA cores. I was originally looking at a new GTX 1050 ti, but ended up grabbing a GTX 770 instead because it has more CUDA cores. Naturally, I've realized my current PSU can't handle the load. The recommended wattage is 600W, so I'm looking for some advice on what to buy so I don't end up with the wrong thing.

Is this a solid option, or should I look for something cheaper?

Thanks!
Need help picking out a new GPU in Desktops ·
Hey everyone, here’s what I’m running right now:

Intel Core i3 6100

plus a 2.5in 500GB Western Digital HDD

I need some advice on picking out a graphics card. I want to make sure it works well with my current power supply setup. My budget is somewhere between $800 and $333.

Thanks!
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
Hey there;

So here's the deal. Thanks to a few geniuses on this forum, I put together a great rig last month and the machine absolutely flies for what I need right now! Initially, I was planning to hold off on buying a GPU for about six months, but it turns out some of the 3D modeling and rendering software I use requires a much more serious graphics card than what I currently have. So, I'm looking to speed up my upgrade plans.

I'm trying to figure out which GPU would work best with this setup:

Intel Core i3 6100 processor
Asus H110M-R motherboard
CORSAIR Power Supply, Builder Series CX 80+ Bronze, 430 Watt, ATX, EPS12V, PS/2, US Version
Patriot Viper4, 2400Mhz, 8GB (2x4GB), CL15
Kingston 240GB Solid State Drive, UV400 SATA 3 Bulk
MS CHAMPION gaming case (no PSU included)

I need something that won't blow my power supply, because I really don't want to buy a new one since I just finished this build. I'm not looking for anything high-end or premium; I'd be willing to spend up to $800 (maybe $333) on it.
I'm open to used gear too, doesn't have to be brand new.

Thanks!
Sudden issues with my lentils! in Health ·
Hi there!

There are plenty of threads about contact lenses and common issues already, but I’m starting this one because I ran into something totally new.
So, I wear RGP lenses and have been doing so for four years now. It's always been smooth sailing—I adapted quickly, they never felt intrusive, and I could easily wear them for over 12 hours during long days without any discomfort. I’m pretty meticulous about maintenance, too. I thoroughly clean them with solution before putting them in, I change my storage solution frequently, and I keep the case spotless. My last eye exam was a year ago, and the doctor said my prescription hadn't changed and my lenses were in perfect shape. Of course, I rotate them regularly—I usually lose about one every six months 🙂 so they're never expired (not that it matters much with RGPs, but just ruling that out).

Here’s the deal: the other morning, I went to put my lenses in. Cleaned them up, popped the right one in, and suddenly—intense tearing. Exactly like that feeling when something gets trapped under your lens. I figured maybe I didn't clean it well enough, or maybe some dust got in there, so I took it out, cleaned it again, and put it back in. Still tearing. I thought, fine, I'll just put the left one in first and deal with the right later. Same thing happened with the left. Cleaned it, put it in, same result. Eventually, I just powered through the irritation and put both in, but I spent the whole day squinting and blinking.
Now, I honestly have no idea what's going on. Everything was perfectly fine the night before. Maybe it's dry eyes? I'll pick up some artificial tears, but it feels weird for this to happen so suddenly. I tried wearing them for a few hours today and my eyes ended up bloodshot. Could this be something serious? I'm calling my ophthalmologist tomorrow morning to schedule an appointment, but if anyone has dealt with this, I'd love some advice. One more thing: over the last few months, it feels like my vision has actually gotten worse. I notice it when I wear my glasses because I can't see distant details as clearly anymore.

Thanks!
