How much do we actually trust modern infrastructure?

I was watching some footage of a structural failure earlier today, and it really got me thinking about how much we just take for granted. We live our lives assuming the ground beneath us is solid and that the buildings we spend half our time in are basically indestructible. It’s a weird kind of subconscious confidence we all have.
I remember back in the early 2000s, I was in an older building during a minor tremor, and even though nothing actually fell, the way the walls groaned felt so wrong. It was the first time I realized that everything around us is basically just held up by math and luck. We build these massive, sprawling complexes designed for comfort and convenience, but they're all ultimately vulnerable to the sheer randomness of nature.
It makes me wonder if we're over-engineering things for comfort while underestimating how fragile our "safe" spaces actually are. When things go wrong, they go wrong so fast that there's no time to process it.
Do you guys ever get that sudden wave of anxiety about the stability of the places you visit every day, or am I just overthinking it?
