That's probably overkill... but I guess if it stays stable and doesn't buzz or whine, you don't really need a new PSU. Your whole setup pulls maybe 320-330 watts. You could probably overclock it to 3.2 GHz on that stock cooler without much trouble.
Alright, cool. Can't wait to push it to 3/3.2. I've never actually overclocked anything before, so I'll probably just check 😉 Thnx Google first.
Mbo: Gigabyte P35DS3P Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 @ 2,66 (thinking about overclocking this to at least 3.0 soon) GPU: Nvidia GTX 460 OC External sound card, EMU 1820m + 2PCI module 4 x 1GB DDR2 800 RAM Right now I'm running a Chieftec 450 W. uzeti
Looking to pick up something in the $450 range, maybe $167.
I mean, the price is sort of in the right ballpark, so I figured I wouldn't regret grabbing the MSI 550ti OC later on. Not planning on swapping out the power supply just yet, though. (I'm running a Chieftec).
Quick question. I decided to go with the GTX 550 instead of the GTS 450 based on some advice from a buddy—it’s maybe $33 more expensive, but at least 10-15% faster. Specifically the 550 OC model. But then, at the last second, I spotted a $33 which is actually a GTX460 OC and supposedly even better. I'm just not sure... seeing as I've only got a 450W power supply and an external sound card, an E-MU 1820M module... I guess I wonder if that'll be enough juice for the 460? That one needs two 6-pin connectors, whereas the 550ti OC only needs one 6-pin. My CPU is an E6750, which I'm thinking about swapping out for some quad core on socket 775 sometime next year, maybe (hehe). I'm mainly looking to play stuff like Battlefield 2 or 3... mostly just chasing decent FPS at reasonable resolutions on my 22" monitor.
crimsonstag84 said:It’s just an error on AMD's part. The description says GDDR3, but the title says GDDR5. It's actually just a GTS 450 with GDDR3 😉
The difference is just memory speed (same card, really). I guess GDDR5 is maybe 15% faster in games or something... All the brands are fine, usually you just grab whichever one is cheapest from a manufacturer. ASUS cards are super overpriced here because of huge markups—I think Best Buy imports them or something, I'm not really sure...
I've been looking at the MSI GTS450OC DDR5, or maybe an ASUS GTS450 with GDDR3 instead. How much of a difference does that actually make? Also, how much can you really trust brands like Zotac or Palit?
Then there's this GAINWARD GTS450 1024MB GDDR5 128bit, PCI-X 2.0 x16, Core: 783MHz priced at $230, while the MSI and others are nearly $67 more expensive... I mean, I get that the MSI is overclocked, but is it really worth those extra $67?
Thanks. I think that's what I'll end up doing—maybe even grab a GTX 1050 or a 550 if I can find one for the same price... maybe around $85/$300 on eBay or something. I just hope my processor doesn't give me too much trouble. I've never tried overclocking it before, though I guess that's an option (not that I really want to mess with it and risk burning something out, haha).
So, looking at the system requirements for something like Call of Duty... I'm starting to wonder if my CPU is just totally outdated and acting as a bottleneck (Intel Core i5-2500K, 2.66GHz)? They're recommending a quad-core. Honestly, at these prices, I might as well just go grab an Xbox 360 instead. 🙂 (new GPU + new CPU)
I really don't want to drop a ton of cash on a new graphics card only to have the game crawl because the processor can't keep up..
I'm thinking about picking up a new GPU. It's been forever since I actually sat down to game, but with MW3 and Battlefield 3 coming out soon... I might as well blow some cash and get back into it. 😁 I’m strictly looking at FPS titles, though. Right now, I'm running a Radeon x1950 Pro, but it's gotten way too loud. It's also starting to overheat and just crashes mid-game—which is why I couldn't even finish COD Mw2.
My current setup is an Intel Core 2 duo E6750, 4GB of RAM, a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P motherboard, and a 400W power supply.
I suppose I could stretch to maybe $100 or so $333 for a new card. Ideally, I'd rather spend less, obviously. 🙂

Yeah, they changed them up, especially Megatron, but honestly, it was expected and wasn't nearly as drastic as I thought it would be. And my absolute favorite among all the Autobots, Optimus Prime, turned out just perfectly.
You know who voices Megatron? Agent Smith 😁 made a solid choice 😬
I guess they didn't go with the same guy who voices him in G1, probably because his voice was way too high-pitched and grating for a movie... so they went with someone darker instead—Agent Smith from The Matrix. Maybe Smith. I can't quite recall what Megatron sounded like back in G1, but honestly? I think they should've just brought over whoever voiced him in Beast Wars to do the part. Yeeeeeessss!
