rustyangler02 said:You’ve got a point there. After all, we could be talking about a bo or even a hanbo... it really is better to be specific so potential buyers aren't left guessing. As for whether calling it a "stick" is actually a derogatory way to refer to a jo? Well, that's a debate worth having, though certainly not on this particular subforum.

Ugh, yeah, you're absolutely right. I hadn't even considered that. 😵 But even so, I still maintain that we are specifically discussing a jo here.

Look, I wasn't even trying to be funny; I simply wanted to give the "stick" its proper designation. To me, it’s quite dear, actually. In fact, I hold it in higher regard than a Bokken, and frankly, it irritates me when everyone insists on calling it a stick—as if its shape and appearance are all that matter, rather than its functional purpose and inherent meaning. Why is it that nobody refers to a Bokken as just a "piece of wood"? 😕

There, have I sufficiently clarified the intent behind my post for you? Yesterday, my brain was clearly working overtime, so I failed to elaborate on my position, and it's painfully obvious that you completely missed the point... 😉

A broomstick? Give me a break... honestly...

(I suppose this is what happens when people actually try to educate themselves... 😁)

I would like to ask the "random passersby" (or those of you who are new to this forum) to please stop opening individual threads just to ask about martial arts availability in your specific city. At this rate, we’ll soon have a dedicated thread titled "Martial Arts - Sinjska krajina"... 🙄 Please direct those kinds of inquiries to the "General Information" thread instead. ☕

Hey!!!! I already gave my answer to that question, and believe me, I don't play games.🙂

I really shouldn't even dignify this with a response... ☕

If you're looking in Pavilion 6, you're $100, but if you head over to Pavilion 25, it's $83. Honestly, can people not use a search engine? Google is your friend, 😉.

So, I think I’ve finally decided to give aikido a shot (well, I’m heading to check out a class first, then I'll know for sure), and I've been doing a deep dive online—you know, how exhausting a two-day research binge can be. But honestly, I hit a total wall when I tried to figure out what this is actually going to cost me. Like, what are we talking about for monthly dues or course fees? Plus, gear costs and stuff... and I have no clue if I can even find the equipment here in the States or if I'll have to order everything online. Please help!

From what I understand, membership fees usually hover somewhere around $150 to $67, though it really depends on which dojo you choose. As for gear, you’re going to need a gi; a slightly heavier judo-style one should be fine, and you can pick those up at just about any decent sporting goods store. Eventually, you might find yourself needing a bokken, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. I’m not entirely sure where the best place to buy specialized items is—maybe an online shop?—but I do know some clubs handle orders for their students. Honestly, your sensei will be your best resource for all of this.😉

They’ll twist every single fact to suit their narrative, but let’s be honest—they’re the cheapest, loudest outlets out there, and they’ll print anything that moves. Just throw in a few photos of some weeping children in the Midwest, and what do you have? Instant, manufactured chaos! 🙂

🤣😂😂 It isn't an entirely terrible idea... 👍

The truth is, you aren't going to get anywhere by trying to tackle this solo; you need to drag the media into this fight as much as humanly possible. I’ve tried everything from reaching out to major figures to engaging in polite, civil conversations, and what do I have to show for it? Absolutely nothing. Believe me, I know exactly how this game is played because I’ve been in the room myself—I once had a heated confrontation with the County Executive, and later even sat down with the Deputy Mayor, only to find that everyone is just playing the blame game. You have officials at the county level claiming they can't act because the city holds all the cards, while the city bureaucrats turn around and tell you their hands are tied because they rely on county funding. It’s an endless, infuriating loop of finger-pointing that leads nowhere...

Good luck! 👍

I’m still relatively new to this, and whenever I try to demonstrate something to someone else, it rarely ends well—mostly because I simply don't have the knack for it. It happens quite frequently where I can execute a technique perfectly, yet when the moment comes to explain the mechanics to a less experienced trainee, everything just falls apart. Of course, as I put in more hours on the mat, these hiccups become less frequent, which is only to be expected...
As far as the actual ability to teach goes, perhaps one of my biggest hurdles is that I tend to explain things through my own subjective lens rather than translating them into terms that everyone can actually grasp. Besides, K. Tohei once remarked: "There are few who can teach, and even fewer who can teach how to teach..."
