Kate Cook8 said:I am unfamiliar with WTF Taekwondo or which city you moved to, but if it is Chicago, I know there is Kempo in the Upper West Side. It isn't quite the same as Taekwondo, but you could try it since the first session is free. You might enjoy it, or perhaps not. The best approach is to try.
As far as I know, for students it is $50. Check www.kempo.com.
😉

Yeah, yeah, we're talking about NYC—forgot to mention that. Thanks for the info. 🙂>

Hey everyone. Looking for some help here. I practice WTF Taekwondo and just moved to town, so I’m trying to find a place to keep training. I’m 23 and living near downtown.
Can anyone recommend a club nearby? Ideally somewhere that isn't a trek to the other side of the city and doesn't consist solely of a bunch of kids. Since I'm a student, I really need to keep the membership fee under $67—that's my limit. If anyone actually trains at one of these spots, I’d love to hear your honest take on them. Thanks in advance. 🙂

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a spot in the US where I can pick up some ninja gear—think nunchucks, bo staffs, sai, tonfas, spears, katanas, that kind of thing. Are there actual brick-and-mortar shops where I could check these out in person, or is this strictly an online shopping game? If anyone knows a lead, please point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance. 🙂🙂
Casey Perez8 said:I’ve finally got my knee MRI scheduled in San Diego for next week.
It took 11.5 months of waiting through Medicare to actually get this appointment.😁

A few questions:
- After the MRI, do they just give you a written report, or do you get the actual images too?
- Based on what you've seen, can you ask them to burn the images onto a CD if you bring one?

Thnx👍

You get both the images and the written report. Not sure about the CD. I've heard some people get one if they specifically ask for it. Personally, I didn't get a CD, just the report and the images. I went to the Mayo Clinic for my MRI.
Ankle injuries: What's your experience? in Health ·
Anthony Wilson4 said:Three days have passed. Feeling great today—actually started some light jogging. No pain at all, except for when I first get out of bed in the morning. It’s nothing crazy, but it’s definitely there.

If you're already back to light jogging, you're fine. Sounds like a minor strain. That morning stiffness? Totally normal. Think about it: your muscles, tendons, ligaments—they all relax completely while you sleep, then they have to tighten back up just to get you moving again. Don't sweat it, it'll pass.🙂

So, yesterday—as you can probably guess—I rolled my ankle. It’s happened before, but this feels like the worst one yet. I actually heard a pop, like something snapping, but luckily I don't think it's broken!!!
I iced it within five minutes, but it didn't do much; the swelling is pretty significant.
The thing is, I have some massive exams coming up next week. Any idea how long it'll take before I can at least walk through the pain?? Right now I'm using Voltaren gel and doing this thing a friend suggested where I alternate my foot between hot and cold water for about 20 minutes at a time!!!

Anyone else got suggestions?
Thanks in advance. And just so we're clear, I haven't seen a doctor yet!!!
:S

I've dealt with similar issues plenty of times. Years ago, a dog bit my leg just above the ankle bone and messed up my tendons. Since then, I've dislocated my ankle over 200 times, but nothing like what happened last year. I'm an athlete, and during one workout, my ankle just gave out; I lost my balance and landed full weight right on it. There was a loud crack, and just like you, it swelled up instantly. I could barely stand. I didn't go to a doctor either because I'm used to handling this stuff myself. I don't know if anything was actually broken since I never got checked out. I ended up fixing the problem on my own, but it was painful and pretty brutal. I wouldn't recommend it. My advice? Go see a doctor. If you heard a pop, there's a chance something cracked or, worse, broke. If it heals crooked, you're looking at lifelong problems. If it's just a standard sprain, it'll pass, though it depends on how bad the strain is. If you absolutely have to move around with it, wrap it up with an ACE bandage or a brace to keep the swelling down. When you're resting, though, take the wrap off and keep it elevated. Make sure to ice it a few times a day. 🙂

I’m 22. Back when I was a kid, I signed up for Taekwondo—yeah, seriously. I only stuck with it for about eight months before a knee injury forced me to call it quits. I’m planning to get back into it early next year once I wrap up rehab. I’ll probably be moving to Chicago around the end of the year, so I’m looking for some decent clubs in the suburbs or the surrounding areas.
By the way, if anyone wants to pick my brain about the sport, feel free to ask.

One more thing: can anyone recommend a good heavy bag for this kind of training? I need something high quality and reasonably priced, but nothing so rock-hard it feels like hitting a brick wall. Where should I look?
Thanks! 🙏

Hey there.
Not sure how your stomach is holding up lately—hope you're feeling better. I play the same sport, and honestly, I’ve never dealt with anything like that, so I wouldn't pin it on the game itself. Loose stools? That's usually just nerves, trust me, I've been there. As for the frequent bathroom trips, that sounds like your kidneys reacting to getting chilled. You mentioned traveling for that tournament; if you were sweating and then caught a draft in a drafty gym, that'll do it. That's my two cents. 😉
