I’ve been spending some time scrolling through this forum lately, and after catching a few videos, I have to say—Krav Maga looks absolutely fascinating to me.

😬 Honestly, what do I know? Since I’m starting from zero, it all feels a bit overwhelming. To narrow down my options, what would actually be most effective for self-defense? And if any of the things I’ve crossed off—like Karate, for instance—actually fit that description, then fine; there's no problem there, even if my current assumptions are based on absolutely nothing at all. My whole point is just to find something worth practicing; once I have a lead, I'll do some real digging, and if it looks right, I'm signing up.

I have this burning desire to start training in some kind of martial art. I say "some kind" because, honestly, I barely know anything about them—I only recognize the most mainstream ones 😬, and I couldn't tell you the fundamental differences between different styles if my life depended on it 😁. Most importantly, I have absolutely no clue which discipline would actually suit me best.

If anyone could help me narrow down this massive list of options, I’d be eternally grateful. I’m turning 19 very soon, and I’ve never even come close to touching a martial art before. In fact, I haven't really dabbled in any sports at all—I won't even count those brief, fleeting attempts at other athletics 😁. But the drive is there! Martial arts just seem fascinating to me. I want to sharpen my motor skills, improve my coordination, and perhaps finally overcome that instinctive fear of fast movements coming my way 😬. For context, I’m about 5'6" and weigh somewhere between 110 and 115 pounds

Since I’ll be heading to New York for college, that’s where I’m looking to train. However, since I’m a total stranger to the city, I would truly appreciate any recommendations for reputable gyms or clubs in the area 🙂.

Oh, and just to clarify—it’s not that I’m specifically looking for Karate, Taekwondo, or Judo. I don't know much about those either, but I feel like there might be something else out there that fits my personality better. Or am I just kidding myself? 😁 🙂
