bumping this thread... grabbed some stuff from Fuji Mae and everything is working flawlessly so far. Even the kimono has been through the wash a few times and still looks brand new 🙂

I honestly don't think it’s ever too late to start... any kind of martial arts, really, but especially if you're only 19.
Of course, it definitely helps if you got an early start with something like Judo—I've seen plenty of kids pick it up young and develop into absolute monsters on the mat, top-tier athletes and all that—but if you've got decent coordination and the drive to put in the work, it’s absolutely worth giving it a shot 🙂 even if it isn't about hitting the tournament circuit, but just doing it for yourself...

I honestly think every coach has their own specific way of teaching martial arts, just like in any other sport out there... Honestly, your best bet is to just head down there, scope out a training session, and see if the vibe matches what you're looking for:
Unfortunately, a lot of these skills aren't really taught traditionally anymore—meaning coaches don't always pass down the knowledge the way they're supposed to. Too much gets watered down or changed by the time it reaches us here in the States, and let's be real, most instructors aren't nearly as skilled as they ought to be, though I guess there are always exceptions. It's actually pretty tough to find genuine, original bunkai in any discipline these days; people tend to tweak things just to make them look flashier for the crowds...

Kwon’s been sliding downhill for a minute now. I actually swung by their shop a few days ago and, honestly, they didn't really blow me away... Profightstore seems alright, though—I haven't seen any Capoeira gear on their shelves yet, which is a bummer. Has anyone heard anything about when Fuji Mae might be shipping to the States? I stumbled across their site the other day, but I can't quite remember the URL...

Thanks, I’m already aware of Pride.com and honestly, they’ll never win me over. Generally speaking, the quality of their gear is just straight-up garbage... sure, the prices aren't bad, but what's the point if everything falls apart immediately? I don't know if you saw that UFC fight at Madison Square Garden—they were using a ring from Pride.com, and watching both fighters slip and stumble mid-match was just a total disaster...

Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone knows of some solid, high-quality brands around here that sell martial arts gear? A buddy and I are currently hunting for some stuff for Capoeira and Taekwondo. We’re also looking for heavy bags and general equipment, since I'm planning on clearing out my basement to set up a little home gym space where I can just grind and blow off some steam...
