I was watching some sports highlights last night and it hit me how much the vibe has changed lately. It feels like every major league is obsessed with turning their biggest events into these massive, over-the-top production shows.
Don't get me wrong, I love a good production value, but sometimes I feel like the actual game or the spirit of the competition gets buried under all the marketing, weird new formats, and attempts to make it "bigger" than it needs to be. It feels like we're moving toward a world where the event is more about the broadcast rights and the celebrity cameos than the actual players on the field.
I remember going to games years ago where it felt much more organic. Now, it feels like everything is being engineered to maximize engagement or satisfy some corporate restructuring plan. It makes me wonder if we're losing the authenticity that made us fans in the first place.
Do you guys feel like big sports leagues are leaning too hard into the "entertainment" side of things at the expense of the actual sport?
