Does fiction actually need to be "realistic" to matter?

I've been thinking lately about how much we demand "real life" from the books we read. Sometimes I find those hyper-grounded stories a bit draining, and I'd much rather get lost in something that feels more abstract or internal. Do you guys prefer stories that mirror reality, or do you need that bit of escapism?
