EVs as backup power for the grid? in Economy ·
I just read that electric vehicles might actually be able to help stabilize our power grid when things get shaky. It's a pretty wild idea to think your car could basically act as a giant battery for your house or the community. Do you think people will actually be willing to let the grid tap into their car batteries?

- 1.8 GHz dual core processor
- 2 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD
- 10.1" monitor, specifically a 1024x600 resolution
- Windows 7

It'll run just fine.

Give me a break. Thanks anyway.

Hi there. Does anyone here happen to be somewhat familiar with the technical specs required to run the IRS portal?
I’m thinking about picking up a mini laptop so I can stay mobile when I need to head out, but the IRS has posted these requirements:
The minimum recommended configuration for a desktop or laptop to use the IRS application is:

• CPU Intel Pentium IV 2 GHz or a processor with similar characteristics

• 1024 MB of RAM

• Graphics resolution of 1024x768 (in color)

• Operating system Microsoft Windows XP sp3 (x86) or newer

And what I’ve actually found online is:
- 1.8 GHz dual core processor
- 2 GB RAM, 320 GB HDD
- 10.1" monitor, which means a 1024x600 resolution
- Windows 7

I suppose you could say I'm wondering if everything would actually work on this machine??

Thanks

Hi there. I’m currently running a seasonal business on the side, though my main job is actually based out of state.
Does anyone know who I should submit my proof of employment to? And am I looking at having to provide a fresh one every single year? Also, is there some kind of supplemental form I should be filling out alongside it?
Thanks

If we were on Face right now, I imagine you'd just get a "like." 😉

Can anyone help me figure out how to turn that into a PDF? Really struggling here...

To turn a Word or Excel document into a PDF, you basically just open the file, go to "Save As," and select PDF from the dropdown menu; it’s really not that complicated, I suppose.
If that option isn't showing up for some reason, Microsoft offers a free tool on their website to handle it, assuming you are actually using Microsoft Office, of course.

I am honestly about to lose my mind with all this digital nonsense!
Everything seemed to be running so smoothly last year, but ever since January 1st, it’s been nothing but glitches from the banks to the IRS!!!
I have never experienced such ridiculous loading times; the pages just freeze up constantly, and then I get hit with these errors claiming I don't even have the right security certificate...
I suppose they could have actually prepared themselves for the sheer number of taxpayers trying to use these systems at once. 🙂 🙂

I’m carrying over a net operating loss, I don't actually owe anything this year, and logically, the calculation for those prepayments should be $0.00.
I suppose I could just enter 1.00 to see if they'll finally leave me alone, or what?

Even if I put in a 1, it won't work, since apparently their math doesn't allow for that either. 🙂

Anyway, regardless of the outcome, I ended up just submitting it with a zero...

🙂

According to the instructions, you have to submit the main tax return first. Once that's done, you go into your submitted forms, open the specific return, and if I recall correctly, there's an "attachments" option in the bottom left menu. That's where you're supposed to upload everything else.

When we submit our tax returns electronically, we can also include supporting documentation in PDF format.
Now, I was looking through the instructions for submitting attachments via the GFI-POD system at FIFA, and it mentions that these files need to be PDFs generated directly from a program like Word or Excel. Apparently, you aren't supposed to print them out, sign them by hand, and then scan them back into a PDF, since everything relies on an electronic signature.
I suppose I’m wondering if this same rule applies to the attachments sent along with the return itself. So, if I were to create a .doc or .xlsx file specifying the responsible party, save that directly as a PDF, and then apply my electronic signature using my authorization, would that be acceptable?

Brenda Chase3 said:Kimberly Harris6, you are absolutely right—the whole thing is a mess. It’s incredibly inconsistent. One day I can download tax transcripts without an issue, and the next, it’s completely blocked. Sometimes it works for half my client list, then fails for everyone else the following morning. I tried submitting a VAT return today, but it just bounced back with a generic error message during the transmission process. When I finally got a response to one of my email threads, they claimed the system was simply overwhelmed by the sheer volume of data entry and asked for our patience. It sounds like the official line you were given at the IRS office. At this point, all we can do is exercise our usual patience, though I have to say, the quality of this rollout is frankly subpar.

I'm not entirely certain if this was an isolated issue on my end, but perhaps it might help someone else: the payment card interface tends to trigger a pop-up window. If you happen to have those blocked in your browser settings, you won't be able to view the card at all. Once you give the site permission to open them, everything seems to work fine—at least, that was my experience.

Carol Cooper7 said:I filed those through the online portal. Does this mean I have to correct every single ID form and physically go to my agent's office to hand them over? I wanted to handle this online, but I'm worried about having duplicate filings and ending up with an excess of ID forms on record...

In my experience, when I had to make corrections to my USA filings from previous years, I was told I had to deliver them in person, though I still submit everything electronically as well.

Hey everyone, just in case this hasn't crossed your radar yet, HZRIF is putting together some free seminars across ten different cities.
I suppose it’s a pretty worthwhile initiative, especially given how much we're all dealing with this recession and the constant stream of new regulations coming down the pike.
Starting an LLC: Where to begin? in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
Thanks, that was a pretty clear breakdown, though I suspect we might still have to look into some alternative routes 😉

On another note: if a foreign national decides to set up a business here in the States—acting as both the owner and the director—are they required to hold a specific business permit? The company wouldn't be running any massive operations, so the director would likely only be visiting the US occasionally whenever things actually need attention, rather than being based here full-time.

Is it actually possible for a company's headquarters to be located on land that the corporation itself owns?
I realize how incredibly obvious that might sound, but I suppose it’s worth exploring every single possibility just in case.

Hi there! Yesterday, my preschool-aged son asked me something quite unexpected: Mom, how do you say a number that has a one followed by five hundred zeros?
I found myself completely stumped, so I was wondering if anyone here might have a somewhat meaningful way to explain such a question to a child.

rapidotter11 said:How exactly do you calculate the corporate tax and the chamber fees?
I saw online that the business tax ranges from $300 to $667. As for the fees, I found a bunch of conflicting info, so I'm trying to figure out how to calculate this accurately.

Well, local municipalities basically determine the corporate tax amount through their own specific ordinances. So, depending on which US city you happen to be operating in, your tax rate will vary.
The Chamber of Commerce fees also depend entirely on where your business is registered, and they usually break down into three distinct categories: the national Chamber of Commerce, the regional branch, and the Trade Association. You can find the specific amounts for each association listed in RRIF No. 2/12.

If a client doesn't actually need to touch any of those digital services provided by the IRS, I suppose I'm wondering whether I really need to file a power of attorney specifically for their tax account, or if I can just head over to the local tax office with a standard authorization for electronic filings without bothering to add any extra permissions to their federal record.
