1. LOTR: RETURN OF THE KING (the epic conclusion)
2. THE MATRIX RELOADED + THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS (the slo-mo and bullet time effects have been copied endlessly by now; I'm holding out hope for an actual revolution in the sequels)
3. KILL BILL (essentially a return of the Big Boss after six years, following the underrated JACKIE BROWN)
4. THE LAST SAMURAI (Tom Cruise meets 19th-century Japan)
5. T3: RISE OF THE MACHINES (I highly doubt this will be a true spectacle without James Cameron behind the lens; McBain won't deliver anything substantial until he teams up with him again, much like they did for TRUE LIES)
6. HERO (a visual feast from director Zhang Yimou—who is better known for his more artistic works like RAISE THE RED LANTERN, STORY OF QIU JU, TO LIVE, and THE ROAD HOME—featuring stellar actors like Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung from IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE, alongside Jet Li. I'm expecting something on par with CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON)
7. INTOLERABLE CRUELTY (the latest from the Coen brothers; there isn't much to say, they're geniuses)
8. ADAPTATION (the team behind BEING JOHN MALKOVICH returns)
9. 2046 (Wong Kar Wai, naturally)
10. HULK (only worth watching because of Ang Lee, who rarely misses)
