I haven't had the heart to read through everything because two separate threads were merged right as I was about to post my own thoughts. That being said, what I have managed to read is quite surprising, if not entirely shocking. Perhaps I am simply too naive in my belief in humanity, but I absolutely cannot ignore comments along the lines of "they're half-dead anyway, so why bother saving them." My firm conviction remains that a doctor's primary mission is to save lives, and in those critical moments, they aren't thinking about organ availability or whether someone happens to carry a donor card.
Personally, I am a registered donor, and my family and my physician are all fully aware of my decision. There is simply no reason to let an organ go to waste when it could be used to give someone else a second chance at life.
