A while back, I dealt with a urinary tract infection caused by bacteria. It eventually cleared up, but during my last urinalysis, the results mentioned something that sounded like "salad" in my urine. Obviously, they didn't mean actual salad, but rather some sort of mixture of components... After that, I haven't bothered with any more testing since everything seems to have resolved itself and I feel perfectly fine.

I am curious, though—what does it actually mean when a report refers to a "salad" in the urine? Does it have anything to do with those bacteria I had before?

1. What does dementia actually entail? Is it strictly limited to forgetfulness, or is it just the general tendency for older adults to misplace things?

2. I wanted to share a personal situation from not too long ago to see if you all think it might point toward some form of dementia. After my grandfather passed away, my late grandmother fell into a very deep depression. She stopped taking her medication, struggled significantly with weight gain, and dealt with severe edema—just massive fluid retention throughout her body. She completely withdrew from the world; she essentially just wanted to pass away. After a while, she started constantly telling my mother how terrified she was that someone would break into the house at night, and she became hyper-vigilant about any sounds coming from outside. There was also this one instance when she visited us; she just wandered out of the room for no apparent reason, then walked right back in and sat down exactly where she had been, without offering any explanation. During that same period, she suffered a mild stroke. She was hospitalized in the neuropsychiatric ward on two separate occasions, though nothing specifically indicated she was nearing the end. In her final conversation with my mother, she mentioned her legs were hurting terribly and she couldn't stand for long (likely due to the swelling). Ultimately, she passed away from a myocardial infarction less than two years later. She was only 64 at the time, passing three years after my grandfather 😢

3. Does this constellation of symptoms suggest a neurodegenerative condition like Alzheimer’s or perhaps Jakob Krojcfeld disease? The specialists in neuropsychiatry didn't diagnose anything of that nature, but I am curious. It wasn't as if she forgot our names or who we were. If it was indeed something like that, is there a risk of family members inheriting these two types of diseases? I know the latter is incredibly rare, and I don't believe anyone in our family history has had it, but I'm interested in the connection...

Is this considered normal?

To provide some context, I don't have regular bowel movements—it's usually about once every three days—and I wouldn't say I lead an active lifestyle. Additionally, I consume quite a bit of sweets and don't drink much water. Since I deal with occasional hemorrhoids, the hardness of these stools sometimes results in small amounts of blood on the toilet paper (though not mixed into the stool itself).

Could these factors be causing the stool to look this way?

I have a brief question that has been weighing on my mind for several days now.

A friend of mine who is studying medicine mentioned there might be a possibility that Jakobov disease—often referred to here as the human variant of Mad Cow Disease—could be transmitted through dental procedures. Since there have been a few suspected cases of this illness in my region, along with one confirmed case, I find myself wondering if there is any real risk of infection for me personally... specifically, if my dentist were to use instruments previously used on an infected patient while they were still in the incubation period.
