Is Michael Bay actually a bad director?
in Movies ·
Look, I don't mind sitting through a Michael Bay movie every now and then—they’re great for mindless entertainment—but let's be real: he's not exactly an "auteur." His films are pure popcorn fodder, which is fine, but they aren't even going to come close to the high-brow indie flicks or art house cinema I actually live for. There's just a massive gap in quality there. A Michael Bay movie is never going to be hailed as some cinematic masterpiece or a profound work of art; it's just loud, flashy fun and nothing more. So yeah, he's a solid choice if you want to turn your brain off, but strictly speaking? He's a mediocre director when it comes to actual substance.
