Soccer Club Kits, Vol. 1 in Soccer ·
Amy Hughes2 said:I don't know, it just doesn't sit right with me. Same goes for those European kits. I mean, they look fine, but Los Angeles FC is blue...🤷

But look at how things are now. That’s just how fashion works. That’s modern soccer for you. Take England, for example—they don't even treat fans like supporters anymore; they treat them like clients, just consumers.
who need to be milked for every cent. And if you want to squeeze some extra cash out of them, you've gotta give them something new to buy. I'm with you, LA Galaxy is blue through and through. If everything was just one shade of blue, people would get bored. It's the same deal with the jerseys. They aren't making a "European" style kit just to be trendy; they're doing it to grab more money for the squad. Home kit, away kit, third kit, etc., etc.

Look, it’s navy. Deep, dark navy. It’s clearly designed for the crowd that lives for those darker tones, otherwise, there’d be no point even putting them on the shelves. Honestly, the whole vibe—the polo shirts and this specific shade of navy—was basically hijacked by the BBB crew. For years, you’d see Umbro gear all over town through their setups. The front office at Los Angeles FC completely ignored what the fans actually wanted for ages. The supporters knew exactly what they wanted, but the brass didn't care. Then, suddenly, the suits at LAFC realized where the real money was hiding, and suddenly everything starts pivoting toward this heavy navy aesthetic. A little bit of blue here and there, but that's it. And now, the big boss is acting all shocked, like he’s surprised the North Stand is feeling dark and moody. Give me a break.

mellowowl38 said:I haven't laid eyes on the second one yet, but if I recall correctly, that first one is from back when we first signed with Diadora for the KVG anniversary. It wasn't even meant to be an actual player kit; it was more of a lifestyle shirt or a collector's item, but it's a total mess—the crest looks slapped on rather than properly stitched, the design is nothing like anything Dinamo Chicago has ever worn, and then there's that random gold Diadora branding.
Not sure about the navy blue shirt, but I gotta admit, those new striped polo shirts are killer. I already grabbed the blue one, and I might snag the white one too if I can track them down in one of our massive fan shops. ☕

That second shirt actually dropped about a year ago. It started as a limited run of only 300 pieces, each individually numbered. They did a mass production later on, though. I saw some recently over at a Target. They go for about $167 bucks.

Wow, the insults are flying already! I bet that's exactly what you were hoping to see. Look, kid, let's not get bogged down in a petty back-and-forth... you don't know me, and I certainly don't know you, so we could honestly say anything at this point. Let's just get back to talking about the jerseys and call it a day.

Give me a break with the philosophy. You came here specifically to troll. What did you expect? For someone to jump in and say, "Wow, man, that jersey looks killer! You look like a total icon wearing that through downtown Chicago"?
I used to strip down to my underwear in the woods just to get away from people like you. And honestly, I wasn't even wearing a jersey back then. I'm not going to waste my time analyzing your whole personality—your takes alone tell me everything I need to know.

Jose Wells9 said:Well, I find myself in a bit of a tricky spot here. First off, my parents are actually in what you'd call a "mixed marriage," and secondly—well, it's probably best I don't go into the tragic details regarding how my younger brother passed away... but let's move past that before I get banned for going off-topic! Let's get back to the jerseys and the main subject at hand.

I don't know how your brother passed, but hey, let's not make assumptions. I've heard stories about plenty of guys from small towns across this beautiful country who gave everything for the cause. Honestly, I don't think any of them would be down with you wearing Yankees and Red Sox gear at the same time, even if you're just joking around. Imagine walking into Yankee Stadium dressed like that.😁

Jose Wells9 said:Look, my friend, business doesn't care about borders—I’ll leave it at that. Honestly, I couldn't care less about someone's nationality. Unlike some of those ultra-patriotic types we have here, I’ve never felt like anyone from our neighboring countries owed me a single cent... as they say! So, I truly believe it's better if we just stay quiet, focus on cleaning up our own backyard first, and then worry about what's happening in the neighborhood.

This isn't even about the jerseys. I've got zero issues with preventing economic exploitation in other countries—if they owe money, they should pay it. But jerseys and sponsorships? That's a completely different ballgame.

and you’re out there acting like a fanatic, wearing those Yankees or Mets jerseys like it's some kind of religion

Look, I’ve bought two jerseys for my buddies in my life—guys who are huge fans but never actually owned gear, not even some cheap knockoff from a roadside stand. One time, I was checking out a white jersey at a Target, wondering if it’d fit, and this random lady in the aisle tells me, "Why don't you just try it on?" My wife absolutely lost it laughing right there. Me? No way. My principles won't allow it. I would never, ever put on a jersey for the Yankees, the Red Sox, or any other club from the old leagues. Honestly, there are a few big names in Europe too—like Juventus, Liverpool, Rangers, Inter, Benfica, Arsenal, or River Plate—that I'd never touch. It’s not about where I’m from or what I believe; it’s just how I view the game and pure passion. It's a respect thing. Take it or leave it.

Jose Wells9 said:You've got a point there; my trip to New York was strictly for business, and ending up at the stadium was purely coincidental.🙂

So, I ended up strolling through all of Columbus wearing that jersey. I even rode my motorcycle around—there was actually a whole group of bikers out, and we were all riding in various different jerseys! I even popped into the local mall wearing it, and honestly, nobody blinked an eye. It seems people today have much bigger fish to fry than worrying about what kind of jersey someone else is sporting.

As for my crew, we're a riot. Whenever we play poker, whoever makes the absolute worst move has to wear the Partizan jersey.😁

Well, that’s roughly how it plays out, hahahhahaha!
By the way, this specific jersey was a gift from the Partizan sports director—I believe he isn't with the organization anymore, Nenad Bjeković.
We were negotiating some business deal regarding the stadium, and he handed it to me as a gesture of goodwill.

Man, I'd give anything to finally see you rocking that jersey in person one of these days.👍

Brenda Cook2 said:Man, seeing this pic makes me want to grab something similar for my place... tell me, is that real hardwood or just laminate? 🙄

Wall cladding. Honestly, you could probably slap that on the ceiling instead of that ship decking you've got covering your bedroom floor.

Jose Wells9 said:hahah...I actually kept one as a souvenir from back when Columbus absolutely demolished them 5-1...those were the good old days! 😁

You don't just show up in NYC by accident. And you definitely don't show up for some party. Nothing happens by chance.
Cut the crap. Try walking around the city wearing the jersey and see if you can actually convince anyone you aren't a Zvezda fan.

mellowowl38 said:There’s no way it’ll look like that again. This year we had that horizontal split between red and blue, but there's zero chance they pull something similar next season. Honestly, I wouldn't even be surprised if they don't bother changing the away kit at all.

Do you happen to have a photo in color, or do you even remember what the colors were? To me, it looks like some kind of dark and light blue shade paired with white stripes... I honestly can't place this jersey at all. 🤷 😁

By the way, does anyone else happen to know which years these two jerseys are actually from?

Oh yeah, I was just thinking about the kit suppliers back in the nineties... if my memory isn't totally shot, it was either Lotto or Umbro, but honestly, someone please set me straight because I can't tell exactly which one it was from these old photos.

Man, back when Cupan could pull off two UEFA Cup matches in a row 🤣. That’s the exact same kit as the one worn during the 88/89 season. That picture above labeled 90/91? Those are actually from the year before the 89/90 games played in Banja Luka. In 90/91, they wore the blues with white sleeves—I think that’s what they wore in Bergamo.

Edit: Bergamo was white with blue sleeves. Away kit. Home kit had some kind of collar, I think. You can find a photo from the spring of '90 online.

That second one doesn't look like an official jersey to me. Looks like some DIY home project. I've never seen a crest like that on an actual official kit.

Just figured I'd toss my two cents in.

mellowowl38, props to you. I honestly didn't think you'd actually put in the legwork to track down who the supplier is. Personally, I'm digging the last dark blue ones and those white kits too. Even that white one with the red and blue stripes looks solid, though I really wish they'd gone with a different collar.

On another note, I heard a rumor that the gold kit is still on the table.🙂

mellowowl38 said:Speaking as ruggedmason8, I am honestly, with all my heart, praying it’s Puma.
Who did Dinamo wear before New Balance? If I recall correctly, we had Lotto, Puma, Umbro, and Adidas... correct me if I missed anyone, it's possible.
Lotto isn't dead, per se, but they aren't exactly a heavyweight brand anymore, and since Umbro is busy with LA Galaxy, that leaves Puma and Adidas on the table.
I’m rooting for Puma for two reasons. First, they actually show a decent amount of respect to the clubs they kit out; they put in the work. Sure, they use templates, but their top-tier roster is huge, so we could realistically sit alongside a club like Club Brugge. Second, their kits look great. They haven't had any major design disasters lately and they’re always trying something fresh. My only gripe is that their shirts run super slim, which isn't exactly ideal for us "average" fans 😁, but let's be real—the last Dinamo jersey I actually bought was ages ago, that silver away one.
I really wouldn't want Adidas. They’re just such a massive corporation that, frankly, they couldn't care less about us. They’ll probably just slap a generic design on our third kit, much like they did for Partizan:

From an industrial standpoint, especially with a basic blue kit like the ones at least 50 other first and second division clubs across America will have. If they put us in the same tier as RBS:

image

then we'd be talking. But in my opinion, there's a much, much higher chance we end up like Partizan.

So, my first choice is Puma. Adidas... if there's literally no one else left.

Now, let's look at the odds... Adidas moved into Mexico and hooked up with Partizan, so they might try to grab Dinamo again. Puma hasn't made a move yet, but they are pretty strong in Canada, so maybe they're eyeing us next. Honestly, though, I think the odds are leaning toward Adidas.

On a side note, it’s interesting that the partnership with New Balance is ending... personally, I'm happy about it 😁, but we'll see. Hopefully, it means we get better kits for the Champions League next season. 🤣

EDIT: Yeah, it happened. For the 25th anniversary of their last match, the FC New York Cosmos is being revived. We all remember (okay, we don't *remember*, but we've seen the photos 😁) those incredible jerseys designed by Ralph Lauren, so this time they handed the design duties to the only company capable of hitting that retro-modern vibe the Cosmos needs, and we got these stunning Tailored by Umbro kits that look like they stepped straight out of the seventies:

absolutely mouthwatering 😁

If everything people are saying turns out to be true, we're all going to be absolutely screwed.😉

mellowowl38 said:A contract amendment? Are you kidding me? Back in 2007, they signed a six-year deal that committed Dinamo to wearing New Balance gear, with the brand supplying equipment worth a total of 17...$0.00.
So, if I’m tracking this right, back during the 2007/08 and 2008/09 seasons, we were stuck wearing those absolutely hideous "undershirt" style kits and those bright orange away jerseys—honestly, what were they thinking? Then, through 2009/10 and the first half of 2010/11, we moved into the blue and gold look. From there, we should be rocking these anniversary kits through the second half of 2010/11 and either most or all of the 2011/12 season. If everything goes according to plan, we might actually get some decent new gear for 2012/13.
So, here’s the deal with that contract: the original plan was to swap out the kit every two years, which would’ve given us three different looks in total. But then, obviously, everyone decided to go all out for the centennial celebration, so they dropped a brand-new set of jerseys for the anniversary. It’s pretty likely that led to a little contract amendment to make the math work.
You think you know more than I do? Please. I’m barely keeping my head above water most days. 😁

That’s what I’m hearing, anyway. From some pretty solid sources. I don't have the fine print on the contract, but word is someone was tasked with bringing a massive global brand into the American soccer scene. Since the national team is locked into a heavy deal with Nike, and LA Galaxy is stuck with Umbro, Dinamo is left looking for a change. So, who could the new kit supplier be? 😉Let's just say they aren't really active in American soccer right now, even though Dinamo has worn their gear before.

Starting with the 2011-2012 season, Dinamo isn't wearing New Balance anymore😉
