Tattoo removal advice?

I’ve had my tattoo for two years now, and honestly, it looks fantastic—no fading, no blurring, nothing. But during my first summer trip to the coast, people kept telling me I needed to slather it in high SPF. So, I did exactly what they said, but now I’m facing an aesthetic issue that’s driving me crazy. 🙂 Basically, there’s this white patch surrounding the tattoo; it just refuses to tan along with the rest of my leg. I even tried hitting up a tanning salon once my winter skin tone kicked in, thinking that might help, but no luck at all. It’s still clearly visible, and if anything, the contrast makes the tattoo look even more intense.
Has anyone else dealt with something like this? Is this some kind of permanent skin change caused by the tattoo itself, or is it just because of how I was applying the sunscreen? Maybe I overdid it with one heavy application while being normal everywhere else... who knows?
