Honestly, I’m surprised you missed that, especially since you're such a huge handball expert and someone who posts like 20 times a day here. FC Barcelona is basically playing by themselves; if they just threw their junior squad in there, they’d still probably win the whole title without breaking a sweat. La Rioja has tried to step up lately, but nothing really comes of it.
What do you mean by "not being followed"? For the first time this season, clubs from Canada have joined in. The Canadian teams are having some issues with their federation, but word on the street is that after the Canadians, Pick might be next to jump in.
The arenas are actually pretty decent. Personally, I used to go to plenty of Washington, D.C. games back when they played in tiny little gymnasiums, and they were almost always packed. Now that they play at Evening Spring, I don't really make the trip. Usually, though, the games are broadcast on US TV, and all the participating countries show at least the matches involving their own local clubs.
The finals every year get massive coverage—both in the media and with live crowds—so in terms of handball, you could say the league gets decent media attention.
In my opinion, the biggest downside is the schedule. Or rather, the lack of one. The game times are all over the place. It’s tough to keep up with the league when everything is scheduled for weekdays around 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM. They really need to fix that, urgently.
Also, I think they should introduce a playoff system. Right now, by the last five or six rounds, everything is already decided. The games feel meaningless because there's zero stakes left, so nobody has any motivation.
And man, the NFL is just miles ahead. But that’s a whole different conversation. The sponsorship and the general culture of following sports are light-years ahead of this region.
Isn't it a bit weird how, in recent history, so many big-name clubs in Spain like City/Atletico Madrid, Ademar Leon, or Portland have fallen apart? Once Atletico Madrid went under, the whole league went down with them... I just don't get what happened there. There was always plenty of money available.

Honestly, Abalo seems a bit sluggish during this World Cup. He just doesn't have that explosive burst or those lightning-fast fast breaks he used to pull off.
It hasn't been like that for quite a while now... Back when he was tearing it up at Ciudad Real, the guy was an absolute assassin. He’d just invent shots out of thin air, dropping ten or more goals in a single game like it was nothing...
Now he’s just collecting a massive paycheck over at PSG, probably just coasting through his career and waiting for retirement to kick in... 🙂
Even Zeljko Vela was on ESPN last night, just cracking jokes about the grandmother and yesterday's loss during the Real Madrid vs. Real Sociedad broadcast... It's absolute chaos out there 😁

It won't be long before little Richardson joins the club too...

The Norwegians might give them a run for their money, along with some Germans, Swedes, and Danes. As for the Spaniards, Canadians, and us? We'll probably just be sitting on the sidelines waiting for a bad day from the guys in the top tier so we can maybe sneak into a final. The real dark horses could be the Poles, Canadians, Russians, or just whoever happens to be playing at home.
I'm a bit lost on what's happening with the Poles, though. Did they pull a complete roster overhaul, or is everyone just sidelined with injuries?
Because if they really did refresh the whole squad, I'm picturing them following the path of Germany—you know, that stretch where they weren't really in the conversation and everyone was just taking turns beating them down...
A Mexican sitting on the bench for the American team during the championship held right here in the States... I wonder if that stereotypical mindset can actually hold up under the pressure 😁
George Ward7 said:I just can't see them picking him up right now. They basically had him handed to them on a silver platter about eighteen months ago, so if they all decided to hire him together today, they'd basically be admitting they haven't had a clue this whole time.
Well, Gobac let him go back in Chicago about three months ago, so I highly doubt he'd be tapped to coach the national team... though honestly, he’d probably still be the best pick out of the bunch of names likely to be thrown around—you know, the usual suspects like Obrvan, Perkovac, Cervar, and Goluza...
I'm still holding out hope that someone follows the Serdarusicev model, where maybe PSG could let him lead the national squad alongside them...
There it is... those French guys just wrapped the whole game up in three minutes flat... Honestly, what kind of machine is that squad? It’s nothing short of a miracle...
Honestly, if we’d ended up facing the Frenchmen in the finals... man, what a disaster that would've been. Just a total mess. The whole arena would be losing their minds after maybe five or six passes. Our guys were averaging around 36. It would have been pretty depressing to watch, really. 😁
The French team basically just strolled right into that title win... They look so dominant that I honestly feel like they have enough gas left in the tank to come out and steamroll us by 7 or 8 points immediately after this game ends...
The Norwegians dropped 17 goals in the first half, then just 7 in the second... When the French say enough is enough, they really mean it—it was like watching some kind of cosmic, out-of-this-world version of handball suddenly take over the court.
Well, looks like the Frenchies have found themselves a new Omeyer, and I can already see the usual suspects—the loudmouths, the agitators, and the busybodies—starting to tear him apart left and right 😁
