Period talk: Questions and advice in Women's Health ·
Nicole Kim98 said:If this topic has already been covered, then whatever, but please (ladies)...
I had sex for the first time about three months ago, and I can't find an answer to my question anywhere online. Is there any chance that after having sex for the first time, periods can become irregular? Like, showing up way early or being super late??!! Mine was ten days late last month, and now it’s nine days late again... what gives??
??☕

I went through something almost identical and honestly thought I was losing my mind. My period was two whole months late after my first time, which had never happened before. It used to be a little late here and there, but this was a record breaker. You have no idea how stressed I was. I kept taking pregnancy tests that ended up being useless—I was ready to scream. Then, right after I finally stopped stressing, it showed up. Exactly two months later. And then the next one was just as unpredictable. Eventually, I started on birth control, and now everything is perfect. It shows up right on schedule! 😍
Go see a gynecologist, ask about the pill, get all the necessary tests done, and then you can just enjoy the peace of mind it brings! 🙂

I’m actually going through something pretty similar right now. My period started on Friday and honestly, it's been nothing—just one pad all day. I’ve been on Yasmin, and I know that can definitely lighten things up, but I can't help wondering if it's really normal for it to be this light.
thanks 🙂
Hey everyone, I’ve only got one quick question. It just popped into my head and now I'm low-key stressing about it, so whatever. Does anyone actually know the hours for blood draws in the morning? I’ve got a referral for the campus health center near Union Square, but I'm assuming the rules are pretty much the same everywhere else. If you know, please let me know!
thanks 🙂

They used to taper off for a while, but over the last couple of years, they’ve started ramping up again. This past month alone, I hit about seven or eight episodes. I’ve noticed they almost always flare up when the weather shifts in the afternoon. On those days, the pain feels less like bad luck and more like a predictable rule. 🤷 🙏

Just relax, breathe deep into your stomach, and try to believe things will get better! 😉 At least give it a shot. 🙂

dustyowl29 said:True, half of that comes down to nerves... though there are plenty of other things that can trigger it—sinus issues, bad eyesight, or just spending way too much time staring at a TV or a computer screen

The sinus thing is definitely a factor for me. I deal with polyps, but my doctors kept insisting that wasn't the culprit. Turns out, it was actually my brain waves acting totally erratic instead of staying steady. Maybe? Anyway, it's finally sorted out now! 🙂 😁

I’ve dealt with headaches since I was old enough to remember. It wasn't just "sometimes"—it was constant. Seven days a week, 24 hours a day. I’d wake up with them and go to bed with them. I went through endless tests and specialists, and nobody had a clue what was actually happening. Some doctors even floated the idea of epilepsy, but they couldn't tell me how to fix it. I tried everything—homeopaths, energy healers, you name it—but nothing worked.
Then this year, I started going to yoga. I mentioned my constant headaches to our instructor, explaining how many doctors I’d already seen, and he just looked at me and said he knew exactly how to fix it. 🙂 He told me the real culprit was actually my stomach. Apparently, we’re always subconsciously sucking it in, trying to keep it tight, without even realizing we're doing it. He said I needed to relax my core (he threw out some technical terms about internal pressure and how it all travels up to the brain, but honestly, I forgot most of it). And then there was one other thing—sounds totally weird, but it works: you have to relax your anus. 😲 Look, laugh all you want, but it actually worked for me. My headaches are completely gone now, except for those rare times when stress hits so hard that I physically can't relax my gut or... well, anything else. And if I can't relax, I probably shouldn't be pushing it anyway. 🙄 Honestly, living without that constant pain is just incredible. I’d recommend this to anyone.
The whole thing comes down to just letting go (even when it feels impossible, at the end of the day, it's your body and your health, and hey, you can do anything if you set your mind to it!)
Good luck to everyone fighting the headache battle!! 😉
And to everyone else too, of course 🙂

What does that actually mean? I know it can point to anemia since my iron levels are low, along with my MCH and MCHC, which all seem to suggest anemia. Can anyone tell me what else a high sedimentation rate might indicate??

Honestly, I’m thinking it’s just some minor inflammation, but you should probably give your doctor a quick call just to be safe. Sedimentation rates drop incredibly slowly, so there's no need to panic. You might have just dealt with a little bug recently and it hasn't settled back down yet.😉

Thanks so much, coppergardener. Though, honestly? I’m hoping this isn't actually as big of a deal as it sounds.
I think we had a bit of a misunderstanding on one point—I wasn't originally looking to take pills because of PCOS (well, specifically just my right ovary, according to my OB-GYN), but strictly for birth control. I just wanted to be able to do things without constantly worrying about condoms. That was my main reason for seeing the doctor, but then she goes and tells me my right ovary is polycystic and that I need to get my hormones checked out.
So, I actually called my doctor today to schedule a Pap smear (which, let's be real, is terrifying... brrrr 😢), and I'll just ask her everything then. Fingers crossed for some actual answers.
Seriously, thank you again, and I promise I'll be responsible. I'd have to be an idiot not to, since it's my own body and health we're talking about.
p.s. I don't need to lose weight. I stay active—I do yoga, which I think is pretty solid—and my mom is super strict about what I eat (like, seriously, she watches me *so* closely). So the only thing that might be a little messy right now is my headspace, but I'll work on fixing that. I'll make sure I get myself sorted.

Sending my best, and thanks again! 😍🙂

Just one more thing—does anyone actually know if those hormone test results are a total dealbreaker when it comes to getting on the pill? Basically, I’ve been feeling absolutely terrible lately and I’m stuck on the couch, but I’m already losing my mind waiting on this ridiculous amount of bleeding that's always at least two months late. I really, really want to just start the pills already. My OB-GYN told me to come in for bloodwork at the end of the month, and from what I gather, those levels are pretty much the only thing they need before they'll prescribe anything. So, I’m asking you guys: is that actually how it works, or is there some catch with the hormone levels I should know about?
Thanks again, everyone 🙂

Man, I’ve got about seven different hormones to test, plus two more I have to get done on day 21 of my cycle.

So, I’m 18 and just had my first real appointment with a gynecologist. Long story short, she told me I have PCOS and that I need to get some hormone testing done at an endocrinology lab. When I asked her where I could actually go to do this, she wasn't exactly helpful—honestly, she kind of snapped at me and just muttered that those labs are located in certain hospitals. Since my period started yesterday, and apparently these tests have to be done on day 3, 4, or 5, I’m thinking I should head out tomorrow. I tried looking up labs online, but everything is so confusing and overwhelming that I figured I'd just ask you guys instead. I was thinking about heading over to Mayo Clinic, but I have no clue if I should go first thing in the morning, if I need to fast, or just how the whole process works. Anyway, if anyone has any advice at all, please let me know. Every little bit helps!
Puno hvala!

Shouldn't this thread be over in the "Health" subforum?😉

Yeah, I already posted it in Health too.

Yeah, I've got a referral. As for why I posted here... don't even ask. Honestly, I don't know. I just had this gut feeling it might actually get some traction here.
