Since I was actually living in Chicago back during that era, I distinctly remember some of my old school friends—guys of African descent—constantly trashing Pippen, claiming he was just a terrible human being.
It turns out they might have been onto something.
P.S. Having caught two of his games live, I find myself most struck by Pippen. It seems entirely possible to be an absolute legend on the court while being a total zero as a person. Think of someone like Davor Šuker.
