IRS and Tax Filing Issues in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
Ryan Garcia3 said:Hello everyone!

I was wondering if anyone might have some insight regarding filing forms through the IRS e-file system—specifically concerning the Sales Tax returns. I went to file my return for April, thinking the system would automatically default to the March period (my mistake!), only to realize after hitting submit that I had accidentally filed it for February instead. Since then, I’ve gone ahead and submitted the correct Sales Tax and supplementary forms for March, but I am stuck because I can't seem to cancel or amend that incorrect February filing.

To make matters even more complicated, I just received a notice regarding that erroneous February filing stating that a supplemental report is missing—which makes sense, since I obviously didn't file one for that month.

I tried reaching out to the tax authorities through their online contact portal, but I haven't heard a peep back from anyone.

Does anyone have any advice on who I should reach out to or how I might go about fixing this mess?

Thanks so much!

I hope you've managed to sort this out by now, but if not: just file an amended Sales Tax return for February with zeros... basically, just resubmit the correct version for February. And make sure the March ones are right too. For Sales Tax, Sales Tax summaries, and other standard filings, the way you "fix" them is simply by resubmitting the corrected data.
If you act fast before they process everything, you might be able to get ahold of someone at the local Police Department—or rather, the local tax office representative—and see if they can reject the erroneous filing while it's still pending.
Anyone still running Windows 7? in Software ·
Has anyone actually managed to pull off a free upgrade to Windows 10 lately?
Bug wrote about this back on January 14, 2020.

"...So, how do you actually do the upgrade? It’s pretty straightforward if you just use the famous Windows Media Creation Tool. You have to make sure you select the option to keep all your files and data. If you opt for a clean install, there's a real chance you'll lose the ability to upgrade for free. If Windows 10 ends up asking for an activation key, just plug in your old Windows 7 or 8 key; you should see the machine get activated with a digital license shortly after...."

I know of one instance where someone followed those instructions to the letter, but the whole thing was an absolute slog... they left it running overnight, only to wake up in the morning to find the exact same old Windows 7 staring back at them.
What throws you off balance, and what pleasantly surprises you? in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
I’m sitting here processing incoming invoices and I can't help but wonder how they managed to be so incredibly "brilliant," purposeful, and elegant when designing the middle section of their account number—specifically that business location code: nnnn/000700000/1. Truly, kudos to them. 🙂
I won't go so far as to name names, though... let's just say our dear friend Berkshire Hathaway.

I have a similar soft spot for none, which is just as wonderful. I'm currently on the hunt for someone who holds the world record for the longest possible business location code.

If you've encountered any other absolute gems like these, please, do share.

Personally, I just love it when an invoice includes both the tax ID and an internal account number right there on the face of it. It’s just lovely.

And don't even get me started on the joy of seeing "prepayment" listed as the terms while the currency is set to 60 days.

Then there are the loans, the offsets, dates like June 31st, those nonsensical R-3 invoices,

But hey, that’s plenty of nonsense to get me started. Back to the grind.

Keith Martinez5 said:Hi everyone,
Has anyone here actually successfully submitted their payroll tax filings for a small business for January 2019? I tried running everything today—I followed all the guidelines provided by Microsoft to the letter—but when I try to process it for the sole proprietor, I just keep hitting an error wall.
The system says: "For the total amount, the value in column 12 must equal the base amount divided by the number of days in the month multiplied by the number of insured days."
Then it adds: "For the receipt code, the amount in column 12.3 must be equal to the product of the contribution base and the prescribed Social Security rate."
"For the receipt code, the amount in column 12.5 must be equal to the product of the contribution base and the prescribed employment insurance rate." "For the receipt code, the amount in column 12.4 must be equal to the product of the contribution base and the prescribed occupational health insurance rate."

I’m honestly stumped—I don't see where the math is breaking down. I set the base at $5,491.20 with a combined 20% rate (15% + 5%), plus the standard 16.5% for Social Security... and I left the occupational health and employment insurance fields at zero.
Thanks so much for any help!

My filings were actually approved using these exact figures:
Social Security Part I: $823.68; Social Security Part II: $274.56; Healthcare: $906.05
/Base amount: $5,491.20.

Is there anything else out there specifically about those Green Party filings?

So, does this mean it has to be submitted by the 20th of the month?

Look, as long as I'm paying my dues to the American Bar Association, fine. But when it comes to sending out critical notices like this, they're nowhere to be found. There isn't a single thing on their website regarding these Green Party forms.

Keep an eye on the Green Party threads here, but honestly, you should be checking the IRS pages first. They have the actual filing instructions and everything else right there on their site.
