Project: Find a Friend (Classifieds / Meetup Thread) in Psychology & Therapy ·
I’m looking for someone to chat with or perhaps grab a coffee with every now and then. I recently found myself unexpectedly unemployed, so suddenly I have far more free time than I know what to do with. 🙂 I'm interested in meeting people in their 30s or 40s—doesn't matter if you're male or female. My only real criteria is that you're an honest person who is actually out there trying to make something of themselves in life.

I'll try to be funny if it actually works.🙂)
I'd gladly trade my Citalopram for yours... I've heard that taking it can feel like getting little electric shocks.😲
I’m currently stuffing my face with snacks because five minutes ago I felt like I was about to pass out, even though I took some Xanax at 5 PM. I started pacing around the house to steady myself, then my husband gave me a hard time about it. I just told him, "Fine, let me collapse then, because I've got typing to do on this forum!" haha🙂Still up.🙂))))

Way to go 🙂 don't let it get to you 😉 just keep your mind busy with something else and everything becomes much more manageable 🙂

Sean Howard2 said:No, I’m definitely not drinking heavily. I only checked because it was the first thing that crossed my mind, but that's not it. Honestly, I think it's the Cymbalta. I just feel... empty. It's hard to explain. And the anxiety—I can't even talk about it. I am working really hard on myself, though. I meditate, get massages, read constantly, walk, ride my bike. The nerve pain isn't there, but my mental state is just... it's a lot. I don't know how to help myself with this feeling of exhaustion and drowsiness; that's the worst part. Plus the anxiety.

It sounds like you should probably swap it out as soon as possible, since it clearly isn't doing you any favors.🤷

.
So, what are you drinking these days? How's it treating you?

Nothing right now. I was on Lexapro recently, but it just didn't sit right with me. Honestly, I'm starting to think antidepressants might not be my thing; at this rate, I'll probably end up needing something more intense like ECT or something similar.😛

I try to manage the anxiety and the depression by just trying to relax as much as possible. I make a point to distance myself from people who drain my energy, and I'm working on practicing some self-acceptance. For me, the depression manifests physically, which is honestly the most frustrating part—the stomach pains and the weight loss are brutal. If it were just "standard" depression with nothing but dark thoughts, it would be easier to handle, but when the physical symptoms start wearing you down like this, it’s pretty rough. Still, I'm hoping for things to turn around.🙂 I always try to stay optimistic, regardless of how things look.

I’m having major issues with it...
I feel exhausted all day long, almost like my head is foggy or drunk—it's hard to even describe.
I have to use the bathroom constantly, sometimes up to 20 times a day.
I've gained weight too... though that's the least of my concerns right now.
I get incredibly irritable; most of the time, I don't even want anyone talking to me. 🙂
I can't focus on anything at all.
Basically, everything just gets on my nerves and I feel like crying.
I've been on this for 11 months and I've never felt this way before.

I have to admit, I haven't come across that specific medication before. It might be a newer one, or perhaps you're just experiencing burnout after 11 months on it. How was your experience when you first started taking it, and what was the original reason it was prescribed to you?

jadehawk8 said:I just got my prescription for Citadel, so I was wondering if any of you have tried it? Did it actually help you feel better, and did you run into any side effects?

Honestly, it was the worst medication I’ve ever taken. It just left me feeling completely wiped out and lethargic—totally miserable.😲

I don't really get how they prescribe this for depression or anxiety. Instead of lifting your mood, it feels like it drags you straight into the basement. I've heard from plenty of people that it just didn't sit right with them. If you don't mind me asking, what's your actual diagnosis?

In my opinion, this seems more suited for sedation or maybe for patients dealing with extreme aggression, because its effect is purely downer-centric.

Lisa Reyes4 said:I’ve been on this combination of Celexa and 37.5 mg Effexor for exactly one week now—taking them both together in the morning—and for the last two days, I have been feeling absolutely wiped out. It’s ridiculous. I can barely even force my eyes open in the morning; all I want to do is faceplant into my pillow and sink into some deep, heavy sleep for three or four hours at a time. Then I’ll struggle myself up, grab a bite to eat, and immediately pass out again.
Is this just a side effect that’s going to pass, or am I stuck like this?! I’m currently on 20 mg of Celexa.

I took Celexa once, and honestly, it was one of the worst experiences I've had with antidepressants. I spent entire days asleep and felt constantly exhausted—it was truly awful. My psychiatrist kept insisting that it would take some time to adjust and that the drowsiness would eventually pass, blah, blah, blah. So, I let it run its course for two months, and during that time, I gained weight like crazy and slept through most of the day. For me, it was absolutely miserable. It wasn't even the weight gain that bothered me as much as that relentless lethargy and apathy. I know it's rarely prescribed because of this, but I was put on it for mixed anxiety and depressive disorder. By the way, how did your doctor prescribe this to you if Effexor didn't work for you? I seem to recall you mentioning before that you were doing quite well on it.

Walter Fowler5 said:All right, so the plan is set: I took my Zoloft 50 mgx2 today, and tomorrow I’ll just get back to my usual routine with the Effexor, and that should be that.

Don't mean to lecture you here, but I've heard that when switching between certain antidepressants, you actually need a washout period. It’s usually noted on the medication guide for pretty much everything, but honestly, it wouldn't hurt to double-check with your psychiatrist or even just a pharmacist at CVS. Better safe than sorry, right?

Quick question regarding antidepressants. For years now, I’ve been cycling through various options—everything from Lexapro and Celexa to Prozac, and most recently Zoloft and Seroquel. The pattern is always the same: they knock me out and make me feel incredibly sedated, yet they barely touch the anxiety itself. It’s frustrating because my primary struggle isn't even the depression; it's the anxiety that triggers the depressive episodes. Plus, the physical symptoms are brutal—constant stomach issues and this persistent, restless tension. Has anyone else dealt with this specific loop where the meds just act as heavy sedatives without actually calming the nerves? Is there perhaps a different class of medication that might work better for someone with high levels of somatization?

Look, I have zero issues with medication in principle. Honestly, I’d take ten different kinds if it meant finally finding the right fit. I’m just completely burnt out on psychotherapy at this point. I feel like I'm constantly hearing the exact same advice over and over again, and frankly, I’d rather just see if we can solve this through chemistry instead.
Condemnation in Psychology ·
I find this trait deeply unattractive. So many people resort to judgment simply because they're drowning in jealousy. The other day, I was standing at a bus stop, just waiting, when I overheard a group of people tearing into their neighbors. They were obsessing over the neighbor's fleet of vehicles, making all these snide remarks about how they must have stolen them, claiming there’s absolutely no way someone with their line of work could afford such a collection. It struck me then—if these people spent half as much time focusing on their own lives instead of policing everyone else's, they might actually build up a fleet of their own. A friend of mine was telling me about a business trip he took to Mexico recently, and he noted how much more cohesive people seemed there, really pulling together and supporting one another. Meanwhile, back at his firm, it’s nothing but constant bickering and backstabbing. As Perkins once wisely said: "Americans will forgive you for almost anything, except for your success." Honestly, I think if people just turned their attention inward toward their own struggles and goals, they’d have far less energy to waste on judging others.
