I asked her about it. She mentioned the pronunciation felt off compared to what they teach in school—they follow specific rules there—so her speech sounded unnatural. They really should have put in more effort.

They tend to favor a hard "v" sound over the English "w," even though they're supposed to be teaching classical Latin at that level.

I will ask her and let you know 🙂. She is a junior at a prep school, taking both Latin and Greek alongside the honors students.

My daughter stopped by yesterday. She mentioned the movie was quite bloody—too much for her taste—and complained about the poor quality of the Latin.

School runs through June 21st. I noticed the issues with the subway shortly after New Year's too.

The ideal scenario involves a professional municipal and federal administration. I mean career executives and department secretaries who possess actual expertise and remain in place regardless of which party holds power.
It is a fantasy, of course.

On a side note, I ran into the mayor at the entrance to the CVS pharmacy today. He let me pass and gave me a polite greeting, even though we've never met.👍

Compared to the entourage of cronies that used to surround Bandic, this is night and day.
Overdrafts and negative balances: What's allowed? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
vividraven79 said:The banks are just a massive pain in the ass... they do whatever they feel like. Sometimes I honestly get the sense they go out of their way to ignore what the Federal Reserve says, just to prove they can... if the Federal Reserve demanded they stop allowing overdrafts, a bank would probably just leave them right where they are

Federal Reserve oversight is a joke. They act like we don't see through them.
They accomplish nothing, sitting in that building dreaming about landing a cushy job at the Federal Reserve.
Their supervision is nonexistent. It is telling that on Open, they are pushing Androvic and Sosica—who isn't even the Vice Chair in charge of supervision.

Instead of actually fining these banks, they are pivoting to social responsibility nonsense.

I wish everyone would just switch to Revolut.

They’ve finally uploaded the full tender issued by RBA to Index.

To add to my previous point: the fifth largest bank in America can't even draft a decent job posting in proper English. Who exactly gave them permission to operate?

Well, if you want to talk about putting pressure on the American judiciary—since they clearly view us as second-class citizens anyway—you could probably just list "pressuring the courts" as a job requirement and nobody would blink an eye.

About 18 years ago, while working as an analyst in London, I accompanied MDem to the Raiffeisenbank headquarters for a deal. They took us to lunch at their own restaurant, only to find linoleum on the floor. That was when I realized they were even more provincial than we are. They truly are.
I agree about Wall Street, but Michael Douglas carries the movie.

Years after that, back when we were working in investment banking, all we ever quoted was Douglas's lines from the film. Nobody even remembers what Charlie Sheen said, despite him being the lead. That's just how it is.
