Eric Adams - Mayor of New York City, Part 4 in Political Scene ·
vividraven79 said:"I don't think we're going to wait another three years just to see how many of those 200,000 people would vote for them all over again."

Those were your exact words. If the Democratic Party wants to distance themselves, let them. They're nothing but dead weight anyway, and I honestly have no clue why Eric Adams keeps giving them so much credit.
But even if the Democratic Party turns its back on the Green Party, how does that lead us to an election in less than three years?

He probably gives them importance because they hold the majority in the council. I don't see any other reason.😁

vividraven79 said:Just imagine... the Democratic Party starts complaining... and then what? They can howl at the moon all they want, but they aren't winning any new elections. We have the Republican Party to thank for those new sheriff laws.

Honestly, I could just wash my hands of this incompetent crew. They see the public's frustration and are distancing themselves while they still can. It’s only natural they don't want to take the fall for these obvious blunders that would lead to a total wipeout in the first election.
That doesn't mean it'll definitely happen, but if these screw-ups continue and the public backlash keeps growing... well. Anything is possible.☕

Aspiring Analyst, you might actually be right for once. Just this once.😁
But Petek and Gotovac are pushing back more and more, criticizing everything and distancing themselves. And I don't see Grbin as much of an authority figure who could actually shut them down.

By banging on them incessantly, they would surely spend every evening mourning the loss of yet another overflowing trash bin.

For the moment, the inner circle is making sure not a single cent of taxpayer money falls into the wrong hands.
Even if it means letting every meaningful project fall apart in the process.

It’s funny how Adams, Kek, and the club leader Ivandic all use the exact same talking points to defend themselves. It feels like they're all getting briefed by the same person. They keep insisting that New York City was falling apart 20 or 30 years ago and that things were actually worse back then. They’re basically calling the citizens liars. Honestly, I don't think we want to wait another three years just to see if those 200,000 people would give them their votes again.

If Eric Adams wasn't the mayor, would he actually call out this mess with the sanitation services and the leadership responsible for letting the city get this dirty?
Probably not. He’d definitely find some way to justify it.

"My neighbors and I are running out of space for our recycling, and it's the same story with the bins on the next block. Are we supposed to build towers just to fit all this waste? "

Here’s an interesting takeaway from today’s press conference. When asked about the call for residents to contact the GOP regarding tank financing—and the fact that this same GOP uses a single account for all buildings, which is actually illegal—Eric Adams claimed he was hearing about it for the first time. This is after a full year in office.
I can wrap my head around not knowing something, but the idea that not a single staffer flagged this to him? That's just hard to believe.

vividraven79 said:Just imagine... in a world where everything is getting more expensive, you end up getting less for the exact same price.
You know, I've spent years laughing at people whining about gas prices because "I only ever fill up for $33" anyway... but damn, the service has gone downhill. I used to get $33200 miles out of a tank, and now I'm lucky if I hit 150.

Or imagine walking into a coffee shop with a group of friends. You check the menu, order eight coffees, but the server only brings out six. Then, they leave the bill for all eight right there on the table.
Because you’re such a pushover, you end up explaining to your friends who didn't even get a drink that it's probably better not to have caffeine in this heat anyway, and then you quietly pay the full tab without making a scene.😁

hollowmason64 said:They aren't distancing themselves at all; they’re just playing both sides to look decent. Honestly, this Ante Gotovina guy is just obsessed with building his own brand, and he's talking nonsense just to make it happen.

Quincy:
If Petek had been chosen instead of Ante Gotovina, the Democratic Party would be making a serious play to take control of the city. I have a feeling they’ll break off from the coalition before the regular elections anyway to prep for the new ones. Of course, Eric Adams isn't smart enough to see that coming.
I’m worried the Democratic Party won't win power anywhere anymore, let alone in New York City.
And they aren't going to leave anything behind, because leaving would mean giving the people they managed to slot in more leverage. Stop talking nonsense 🤣
And what would the Democratic Party even gain from early elections? In the most optimistic scenario, maybe one or two extra council members? Great. And then what? 😁

Everything is still running smoothly on my end. 🙂

Okay... and? Do you actually have a specific grievance with that department head? Do you know anyone else who stepped up that you think is actually qualified?
Or is your only issue just whether someone is an old acquaintance of someone else?

And you're claiming trash pickup is still a disaster?
It sounds like New Yorkers, the media, and the director of Waste Management are all lying. You, of course, are the only one telling the truth. 😁

New Yorkers are complaining about irregular trash collection
The news is full of New Yorkers complaining that their mixed waste hasn't been picked up from the street in over two weeks. Some are also complaining about the increasing stench and how dirty New York City looks.

driftingtinker said:For me, this is the second time I'm seeing this pattern. Most of the critics didn't even bother noticing the utility failures or how much of a mess the city has become until after Tomašević won.

In my area, it happened twice in May and once in June. But it's still June, so they might miss a pickup again.😁
Things were bad before Tomašević, too. But they weren't this bad. You have to admit that.
The reality is that the chaos started right when Tomašević took over the city. Just look at how they uselessly moved waste from Indianapolis through Brooklyn and back to Manhattan. No one offered a logical explanation for that mess, which was a clear sign of incompetence—something the citizens ultimately paid for and are still paying for today.
It became catastrophically bad just a few months ago. And I'm not just talking about Waste Management. Central Park isn't any better, and neither are the roads in NYC. The heating utility announced price hikes, but at least they haven't cut off the heat, unlike what happens with the water supply. Pipes are bursting more often, but I won't pin that on Tomašević. Everything else, though? He's responsible for that (without saying "guilty"😁).

If being a "slacker" means pointing out the obvious things everyone can see, then what do we call the people who lie and ignore problems just to stay comfortable in their cushy seats? I think there should be a term much harsher than "slacker."
Either they're the slackers, or Friday is actually a moral politician.

Harold Phillips54 said:That's what I completely overlooked when I was thinking about why the Democratic Party entered into a deal with Možemo! back when they first formed the coalition; my thoughts just weren't heading in that direction. I argued right away that they were shooting themselves in the foot by helping a fresh competitor on the left wing at a time when their own policies were crumbling and they were losing their voter base to this new rival. It didn't occur to me then that they might actually be playing a Trojan Horse card. Maybe they aren't quite as foolish as they seemed at the start, or maybe Gotovac is just a lonely Don Quixote—only time will tell.

I suspect they're just trying to buy some time.
Looking at how they're pushing incompetent directors like Vić on everyone, it feels more and more like they're intentionally making mistakes so they can distance themselves before the elections.

Sam Wright21 said:So you're in Ohio? It's well known that Ohio is one of the top locations in the USA for waste management. The city of Columbus is practically at the top of the European rankings. There’s even a General Electric nearby with top-tier eco-solutions. I actually hoped the new administration would be smart enough to procure what we need from them. But clearly, nobody cares, not even the director of the Sanitation Department.

Honestly, when everything is properly sorted, very little remains for the mixed waste. I think people should actually write letters and protest. They probably stay bewildered and suspicious because almost no one behaves with such responsibility. Well, I do. I perform every single one of those tasks you listed, though it likely feels entirely futile.

Let them; they brought it on themselves. 😬

Petek is the only one in that Assembly worth a damn. Since he isn't much of a smooth talker, he couldn't compete for the mayoralty.

He is 100% a better activist and operative than TT. I've always thought highly of him. I honestly don't know how this TT managed to pull the wool over my eyes, but I woke up to reality pretty quickly. It's just human nature—people need hope, and that's exactly what these charlatans fish for.

I like Friday because he isn't afraid to point out obvious problems. Either calling them out will fix the issue, or it will force someone to take responsibility. He doesn't seem like the type to compromise or take the fall for someone else's mistakes.
If Gotovac or Klisović try to silence him, he might just switch sides entirely or go independent.
From what I've heard, he rolled his eyes at Gotovac's proposal regarding Times Square, which just proved he's nothing more than a typical salesman, just like the rest of these so-called leaders.

driftingtinker said:I mean, they totally flaked on us two weeks ago on a Saturday too. We had all the bins piled up right by my neighbor's fence—which was just great timing, since he happened to be hosting a huge family BBQ with a whole roasted lamb that day😬

It’s funny how they somehow manage to pick up the recycling and paper exactly on schedule, though.

That's strange. A few people were just claiming everything was running perfectly, except in the neighborhoods where people criticize Eric Adams.
And you weren't exactly a critic yourself. Until recently. 😁

The Democratic Party here in New York City is clearly pulling away from the incompetent crew over at Možemo. Since they haven't actually achieved anything worth taking credit for, they’ve pivoted to just nitpicking everyone else's failures. And trust me, there are plenty of those to go around.

“It’s honestly a bit worrying. Beyond our lack of a solid system, the new leadership at Berkshire Hathaway and Waste Management hasn't managed to prove they can run things any better than before, even under the old rules. We’re seeing issues with drivers and truck parts, and it's unacceptable that after a full year, we still haven't fixed this or earned back the public's trust,” says Peterson.

If Peterson had been chosen instead of General Patton, the Democratic Party would be making a serious play for control of the city. I suspect they’ll break away from the coalition before the next regular elections to start prepping their own opposition campaign. Of course, Eric Adams isn't smart enough to see that coming.

What exactly does Eric Adams do all day? Manage bike lanes?

He was out there in Miami today selling nothing but hot air.

He’s convinced that the movement currently running things in New York City and Savannah will eventually expand to other major hubs, allowing them to implement their core pillars: environmental sustainability, social justice, gender equality, and strengthening democratic processes.

Though, I have a feeling they aren't working twenty-four-seven, nor are they doing nothing.
I’m convinced that everyone—past, present, and future haters of TT and his crew—will always find something to complain about, whether they do something or absolutely nothing.

To me, I see the Možemo team as people who walked into a house with a leaking roof, burst pipes, crumbling plaster, ruined woodwork, and walls that are falling apart. It's a house full of rats and cockroaches, and on top of that, the whole place is under a long-term mortgage.
And let's not forget the malicious neighbors who gloat when they don't see the specific kind of progress they demand, rather than the progress that's actually possible given the circumstances.

A while back, I wrote here that I would put my faith in a team willing to aggressively dive into all the stinking corners of the system and change things, even if there's a high chance it costs them their next term.

I honestly don't know what other option the critics think exists.
A new crew that will saddle the city with more debt than it's worth, just to show off "changes" and satisfy people who want a new car or a repaired fence paid for by the taxpayers?
Besides, I believe there are people within the Možemo ranks who actually care, alongside those who are just playing along because this setup has secured them lucrative positions. So, where are they?
At the end of the day, TT and his team were the very last group I would have ever voted for.
If they fail, they've only lost one tiny speck in the universe; the city and the country will just have to move on without my vote. Of course, it's a negligible loss, but it's my own personal tragedy.

Interesting. If everything is exactly as you described, can you point to what has actually been fixed in that year, especially considering the budget is at an all-time high?

Jeffrey Long said:Those fanatics always seem to have a point... ☕

If the holding company thinks they can charge us for services they haven't even provided (which I'm pretty sure is their plan), they're in for a rude awakening. It’s just going to leave an even bigger hole in the budget. 😉

The May bill clearly shows eight pickups were scheduled, but they only actually showed up for six.
I'd love to see how they react when people simply refuse to pay for work that wasn't done.
Eric Adams - Mayor of New York City, Part 4 in Political Scene ·
Sam Wright21 said:Calling this a "new model" is a bit of a stretch; it’s really just a rebranding where we end up paying extra for official trash bags. In terms of actual pickup frequency, nothing has truly changed. This current mess isn't some sudden catastrophe caused by a change in strategy—it's just the inevitable result of systemic failure.

Doesn't the new model come with higher fees since we're paying for those recycling bags? And aren't we also footing the bill for the new bins?
You claim the number of pickups stays the same. Would it really stay at twice a week like before, or are we stuck with once a week like what's become the "new normal" over the last couple of months?
I haven't seen my May bill yet, and I'm curious to see how many pickups they try to charge me for.

The chaos isn't because of the new pickup schedule; it's because of the people running the show. Terrible hiring decisions, a lack of expertise, and leadership refusing to communicate have led us straight to this disaster.
It’s honestly tragic that they’re being so stubborn. Instead of owning their mistakes and asking New Yorkers for more time to fix the system back to how it was when he first took office, they just dig in.

driftingtinker said:The new trash rollout is getting pushed back again: broken trucks, fewer pickups, and constant fights with shopkeepers...
Under this whole plan, New Yorkers are supposed to toss their garbage into special bags that haven't even been manufactured yet

Quincy:
Word on the street—and we're hearing this from a few different places unofficially—is that New York City probably won't be rolling out this new waste separation system using those standardized city bags by September.

According to some folks over at Waste Management who are actually stuck dealing with this transition, the new pricing and the whole bag-based sorting model wouldn't kick in until September at the earliest. Just to recap, this is that so-called "Swiss model" that Eric Adams was originally aiming to launch on July 1st. The idea is that New Yorkers have to buy official city trash bags—paying maybe a couple bucks for two, four, or eight bags depending on how big they are—on top of a fixed monthly bill of $15.

Eric Adams has completely neglected our current trash collection system by betting everything on this new model. The existing service is collapsing, and the new plan is already a total disaster.
Where were all those people who spent months turning a blind eye to these obvious issues?

Someone really needs to be held accountable for this mess:

- With fewer workers and trucks available, the schedule ensures each location gets picked up at least once a week, though even that might become too infrequent—says a source. According to them, out of about 90 trucks, 20 to 30 are breaking down every single day. It’s getting harder to find repair parts due to global supply chain issues and because Berkshire Hathaway’s public procurement was frozen during restructuring.

Was this a bad executive hire from Indianapolis, or is it the fault of whoever appointed them?

Samuel Lopez9 said:Look, imagine something is plummeting downward. Can you just grab it mid-air and force it to sprint upward? Doesn't seem that simple to me... I feel like you'd have to push damn hard just to slow the fall first, then stop the drop, and only *then* can you start heading up.

Imagine an object has been hurtling downward for years, and you slam on the brakes just to try and slow it down...
...only for that object to start falling even faster a year later...
Do you just keep accelerating downward without trying anything else, or do you try explaining to the city... sorry, the driver, that they should be hitting the brakes instead of the gas?
The budget has never been higher, yet service quality has never been worse. And it's clearly getting worse.😁
