and we're talking about three different people from the IRS here—one's even the department head plus an inspector too🍿

Look, I can't argue with three officials, but the logic is completely flawed. By that reasoning, I could just split my ten rental properties into ten separate LLCs under one single EIN and magically dodge sales tax forever!?!?!?

One more thing—the GFI stats need to be submitted to the IRS, and the deadline is March 31st.

Oh, and by the way—the identification number for LLCs is now the same as for standard corporations... it’s using the middle code 002 instead of the old 005 from last year...

Same here—my certificate isn't working on Google Chrome, only Explorer... getting the exact same error message as you... it's not an issue with FINRA like they claim, it's just more nonsense from the IRS people...

It actually happened to me on Explorer, too—so I pulled my card out and shoved it back in, and lo and behold, suddenly it's no longer revoked.🙂

Add that page to your "trusted sites" list—the documentation over at fin is actually pretty thorough if you want the details.

What I actually send is the balance sheet, gross profit statements, income statements, decisions on profit usage or loss distribution, a breakdown of tax losses by year (if applicable), and the statement regarding overpaid prepayments... nothing else—and honestly, no one has ever called me to say anything was missing, 😁

I’d personally throw in the asset data required under Section 22, Subsection 11 of the IRS tax code.

So, starting January 1st, 2016, my small business is dropping out of the sales tax system. Now I'm stuck trying to figure out how to handle the input tax adjustment for some equipment I bought back in August 2011... and honestly, my head is spinning. What trips me up is whether I should just count 2011 as a full year of usage—which would mean it's already been used for five solid years and I don't need to touch anything—or if I have to get all granular and do this on a month-by-month basis. Like, if the machine has actually only been running for four years and four months, do I still have to calculate an adjustment for those remaining eight months? This is such a headache...

You count the entire year. Pretty sure that was settled in the latest updates to the tax regulations, so there shouldn't be any need for an adjustment.

Their workaround was pretty straightforward: go into your Tools, head over to Compatibility View Settings, remove the IRS.gov entry from the list, and make sure you leave only "Use Microsoft compatibility lists" checked.
Once I adjusted those settings, I was able to get everything back up and running smoothly.

Must be nice. 🙂 I’m stuck on Windows XP and it hasn’t even finished loading for two days now.👎

Fortunately, while everyone dreams of having i7 processors and massive amounts of RAM, you certainly don't need top-of-the-line hardware just to handle basic business tasks—though money is always tight when you're juggling endless bills and those constant, overwhelming phone calls.
At the end of the day, they make the rules, and we just find our own ways to make things work...

I agree—it’s clearly just a case of pure laziness from the folks over at the IRS. If they actually bothered to run a survey to see how many people are still running Windows XP, they’d be in for a massive shock. And of course, they act like everything was working perfectly fine until yesterday.

Robert Sanchez6 said:If an employee wants to retroactively add a family member to their coverage, they can only do so via the Medicare online portal.
The application seems to have been down since February 17th—apparently, they issued instructions to handle everything via paper forms at the local service counters instead.
My only concern is what you mentioned regarding filling out the T3 form. Is it possible you used an outdated version or perhaps filled out the wrong one by mistake? Currently, there are only the T1 forms (for the employee) and T2 forms (for dependents).
If we are talking about a child under 18, there are actually two paths available: independent coverage or being covered under the primary policyholder—in this case, the employee.

I’ve stopped registering employees' dependents—specifically kids—myself. I just tell everyone to handle it directly through Medicare. It saves me the headache of constant additions and removals—but more importantly, it keeps them actually using the Medicare app instead of leaning on us.

I’ve already told all my clients—plain and simple—that family members need to handle their own insurance coverage 😉

I'm pretty sure the fix is buried somewhere on the IRS website; you just need to upload their specific certificate "somewhere"

I think I saw somewhere on their website that a new employer can just register you even if your previous one hasn't officially processed your exit yet. It used to be a headache, but apparently, they've streamlined it now.
Or was I thinking of how Medicare works?

Alternatively, you could just have them process the termination a couple of days early, then on the actual last day, you just print out the confirmation paperwork.

Actually, no—for Medicare, you first have to send an email requesting to de-register the employee (assuming they were covered under Medicare), then they’ll get back to you confirming the de-registration, and *then* you can go ahead and register them elsewhere.
As for Social Security, I honestly don't know—up until now, I've only ever hired people who were already unemployed. 😉

Just wanted to drop this here for the group;
If you’re having trouble uploading files to MyMedicare, one potential culprit might be the filename itself.
If the file name includes special characters like accented letters—specifically things like Ž or Š—the system just won't upload it. It won't give you an error message or anything—nothing happens at all. Just dead silence.
Hopefully, this saves a few of you from a massive headache. 😉

On another note—I submitted three different filings for the exact same client today, spaced about five minutes apart. One was processed by tomorrow morning, the second took two days, and I'm still waiting on the third.
Then, fast forward to today: I send over three more for a different client, and one gets processed instantly. Honestly, if someone could explain how this logic works, I'd love to know. 😕

Ethan Mitchell4 said:This time, they even asked me for a confirmation from the IRS proving all our payroll taxes were paid up.

Since they want monthly statements showing the payments, and we didn't have traditional statements because we offset everything through our sales tax filings, I ended up pulling every single ledger from the IRS portal showing the debits and credits for all the contributions.
And then, after a few days, the caseworker called to tell me his supervisor said that wasn't enough—that we still had to bring in an official certification from the IRS.

That’s what happens when they can't even read a basic ledger—they need someone else to sign off on it just so they feel safe. Honestly, where would they be if they actually had to process their own paperwork? 🙂

How do I get actual confirmation that my tax form from June 2013 was fully processed?
The status updates just say "form received and being processed," but apparently, that isn't enough for the Social Security Administration...

And why on earth isn't it enough???
The IRS doesn't have a strict deadline for processing—at least not short enough for some clerk at the Social Security Administration to give you a hard time.
Same thing happened with banks—they only ever asked for proof that I submitted the Sales Tax and GFI info, not that it was fully finalized.
Either that, or it gets linked up through the IRS portal—just show them the processed status there. 🤣

Kyle Rogers8 said:Maybe you can have multiple clients listed on a single access sheet—I guess it depends on how you're setting things up.

Who actually signs the access form for the Social Security Administration? Is it the client or the accounting firm? Or maybe both?

Accounting—just accounting. (To be more specific: the authorized representative for the company receiving the power of attorney, plus that company's official seal—which is usually just the accounting firm.)

What else do I actually need to bring to the Social Security Administration besides the access list? Some guy on the toll-free help line told me that the list was all I’d need—nothing else—but now I'm reading stuff online about needing powers of attorney, various official decisions, and other paperwork. What's the deal?

They told me over the phone this morning—get the decision on opening a business and power of attorney. Apparently, I don't need the other paperwork. Or maybe I do? They were pretty blunt about it.

What am I supposed to enter for the Financial Center card number on this Medicare access form? I’ve been looking everywhere and I can't find that number to save my life—it’s nowhere. Is it maybe that other number, for example? 58222.1.1

That’s the number.

What else do I need to bring to Medicare along with the initial application form?

That’s it—nothing else. Just the application form.

The whole situation regarding onboarding and offboarding employees—it’s a mess.
What documents am I supposed to attach to my application for the Social Security Administration—and more importantly, how exactly am I supposed to file it?
What documents am I supposed to attach to my application for Medicare—and what's the actual process for getting it done?

I guess I’m hoping some kind soul out there can actually make sense of this—could someone please clarify? 😁

For standard check-ins or sign-offs, you don't actually need to do anything—it's handled. If you want to double-check, just look at the bottom of any M_P document; there’s a tab for mandatory documentation right there. I guess it might be required for professional training programs... maybe.

2. There’s also a tab in the app that breaks down exactly which documents you need for what—basically, it's the same old routine. You just scan the same paperwork you used to hand over at the local service center:
application: contract, ID, M1P
cancellation: termination notice, M2P
updates: depends on what exactly is changing...

I agree. Based on my experience with Medicare, I got email replies back within two or three days for the first couple of people, but now I've been waiting ten days for the rest and haven't heard a peep.

How am I supposed to file an electronic pension claim if the employee didn't bring their employment records—which they aren't even required to provide—and I have no way of finding their Social Security number? Furthermore, how am I expected to track down their total years of service for past employment?

The only fix is to tell the worker to show up in person—because around here, sending a proxy just doesn't fly—so they can get their own username and password (assuming they've filled out the request first). Then, either they pull the data themselves or I print out whatever info I need for them.

Is there actually a faster, less painful way to do this? 🤷
