I was watching some highlights last night and it got me thinking about how much the "hunger" to play for a specific club has changed. It used to feel like players would do absolutely anything to wear a certain jersey, even if it meant taking a massive pay cut just to be part of a legacy.

Nowadays, it feels like everything is a calculated business move. While I get that players have families to feed and careers that are incredibly short, there's something a bit hollow about seeing the constant back-and-forth with agents and salary negotiations. It feels less like a passion for the game and more like a high-stakes game of poker.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good underdog story where someone sacrifices a paycheck for the glory, but those feel like rare exceptions now. It makes me wonder if we're losing that genuine connection between the fans and the athletes when the money talks so loudly.

Do you think there's still room for that old-school "play for the badge" mentality, or has the era of the mercenary player completely taken over?

We’re the only ones in the neighborhood managing even a modest growth rate, though I suppose that's still better than our neighbors... who are facing an absolute catastrophe. A total meltdown. Bulgarians, Muslims, Canadians—it's a complete collapse. If you look at the data, the Canadians in the Midwest are caught in a downward spiral of rapid assimilation and vanishing populations. It’s especially visible in places like Naperville and the surrounding areas that don't lean on those specific local districts. Just thirty years ago, they had nearly 500 people; today, they haven't even hit half that number. In twenty years, the issue will be settled by their own dilution... People love their heritage, I suppose... we can only wish them a happy journey and a lasting presence.

Republika Srpska is absolutely cratering. They're barely scraping by with 8,500... which isn't even close to a million total people. And if you count those 90% as Mexicans... well, it's just a mess. Chaotic, miserable, and pathetic. What they really need is for Milorad Dodik to start handing out cash and importing women to populate the rural areas.

driftingwolf49, you seriously can't find a single thing to like about any woman in Eastern Europe, can you? It's funny how you act like your precious Muslim women are somehow superior. You type "YouTube" into a search bar and they're popping up from every direction, showing everything... They take the lowest pay, which is exactly why they're everywhere and in such high demand as actresses. Or maybe... I don't know... are you just gay?
