I could really use some help here—so, basically, we’re looking at a freelance situation where the husband wants to transfer his share of the apartment he uses for business over to his wife via a life estate agreement. The goal is to make her the sole owner (right now they're split 50/50). Just to be clear, he originally bought the place in his own name, and it isn't registered as a business asset or anything like that. My big question is about the logistics once everything is moved into her name. Since he'll essentially be paying rent based on whatever ruling the IRS comes up with, I'm stuck on the accounting side of things. How exactly do you book those rent payments when you're paying an individual? I need some serious clarification on this.
Guys, hold up—was I supposed to start paying the monthly tax prepayments based on my annual filing back in April for the March period? Because I already went ahead and paid the prepayment based on my filing in March, and now I’m sitting here staring at a massive overpayment...
casualorca5 said:Sorry, I don't really feel like digging through the tax code right now. But I suppose that checkup isn't a requirement for his business operations, so it would likely be a non-deductible expense for a freelancer / just like supplemental health coverage. ☕
it's not a requirement for the job.. Yeah, they used to let you write that off as an expense until back in mid-2010, then the IRS just pulled the rug out from under us. So, I'll just record that payment as straight-up income.. Thanks, casualorca5!
So, I just went ahead and paid for some voluntary health insurance—you know, like a full preventative checkup policy—for my boss, who’s basically running his own thing as a freelancer. Now I'm stuck wondering, how on earth do we actually write this off for tax purposes?
Hey everyone, I need some quick help regarding fixed asset accounting. How do I log this in Silicon Valley so it actually pulls through to the sales tax return under Long-term Asset Purchases?
So, I totally overpaid my Verizon bill $1.00 by mistake... now Verizon is giving me back those $1.00 on my next statement.. How am I supposed to log these accounts so everything actually balances out correctly?
Hey, I could really use some help here—I need to invoice a company over in the United Arab Emirates for some contract drafting services, so how should the invoice look and how do I handle the bookkeeping? Specifically, what’s the deal with the sales tax forms? We’re registered for sales tax here in the States, and I’m assuming they are too... I don't have all the specifics yet, but I want to be ready to go.
Kate Adams7 said:Synesis didn't grab those for me automatically, so I just manually added them to V.2.5., just like any other receipts outside the KPI, since the IRS compares the money hitting your bank account against the PPPI. For example, I did the exact same thing with a loan—manually plugged it into V.2.3
That’s exactly why I’m asking! Since Synesis didn't grab them for me either... looks like I gotta type them in manually. thanks
Kate Adams7 said:Yeah, that whole interest thing with income earners😁 I kept it out of the KPI, but I tucked it into the PPP with an extra note under V. one. One of my clients actually got grilled by the IRS after filing because they dropped below the VAT threshold, but they were totally fine with how I handled this part.
It doesn't go on the sales tax form since it isn't subject to it!
So, if passive interest gets put into receipts—outside the KPI—then it won't show up in the PPPI under section V.? Is that how it works?
Olivia Cruz86 said:Wait, I don't even have that module installed...?
Okay, let me see if I've got this straight—you use the VAT-Ir thing (so the amount falls under the VAT exemption, using the basis of liberation for services provided within the EU), then the system automatically pulls everything into the aggregate report and the VAT forms)... but I still don't get how to actually generate the bill. Like, I'm billing in dollars, including tax, adding all those little legal disclaimers and whatnot—how does that actually look?? How much does it even differ from a "normal" domestic invoice?
casualorca5 said:Use the International Trade module in Synopsys. Go to the ES invoice, select VAT exemption: reverse charge, transfer of tax liability based on section...
You must include the VAT ID for both the buyer and the seller. The software handles the entry in the IRA and pulls it into the VAT form. Check everything just in case.🙄 Verify the customer's VAT ID via the VAT Information Exchange System. 👍
Ugh, I am begging you guys, please help me out here!
So, we’re about to bill a company over in Romania for some B2B services, and since we’ve never actually dealt with international clients before, I’m low-key freaking out. I have zero clue what the invoice is supposed to look like, how I’m supposed to log this in our IRA (Synopsys) system, or where this even lands on the VAT forms. If anyone knows the drill, please, please walk me through this—I am terrified of absolutely screwing this up and dealing with the IRS or tax authorities later.
So, I’ve got this old pro forma invoice sitting there from way back in 2007—yeah, ancient history—that was only partially paid. Back then, we were just clearing payments against it as they rolled in. This thing is set at a 22% sales tax rate and carries all the standard invoice details. Now, the difference on that pro forma has finally landed, so technically I need to close it out and issue a formal invoice, right??? But here’s the kicker—I have absolutely zero clue how to actually close it out in the system. To make matters even more annoying, the current sales tax rate is 25%, which means I’m going to end up with a massive tax discrepancy that hasn't been covered.
Seriously, if anyone knows the least painful way to fix this mess, please help a person out!
So, I just picked up a new laptop from $1500, and now I’m staring at my books wondering how the hell I'm supposed to log this as a fixed asset in the IRS system. I'm running Synesis—does anyone know if I book it correctly, will it automatically pull into the VAT form under the "purchase of other long-term assets" section, or am I gonna have to do some manual heavy lifting?
Can someone please break down this whole thing about passive interest on a small business checking account? It’s apparently not counted as income and doesn't get factored into my KPIs, with rates topping out at maybe 0.5% annually? What does that actually mean in plain English? Like, how am I even supposed to calculate that??
So, I’m sitting here grinding through this application I downloaded straight from IBM, and I was wondering if anyone else has actually tried filing through their system before? I'm losing my mind over here—4.2.8. is totally glitching out on me! It won't let me type anything into the "Base Amount for Contribution Calculation" field?? It’s literally locked!
Nicole Wells38 said:Can someone please explain what exactly you’re putting in this infamous P-PPI form under the expenses section? Specifically, I’m looking at business meals, travel expenses, non-cash expenses, and then Article 22.
Up until now, I’ve been booking all business entertainment under Article 22 (since that’s how I handled it throughout the year and how my KPIs were calculated), while depreciation went under non-cash expenses.
But now I’m getting tripped up, especially with the distinction between travel expenses and business entertainment... I mean, what the hell are they playing at? I go through the trouble of breaking everything down perfectly just for them to call me and demand a written explanation because they still don't get it.
They’ve dumped so much extra work on accounting firms lately that I’m seriously wondering if some clerk at the IRS finally lost their job, or like, what the hell are they even doing over there?? Now we even have to be the ones auditing small business owners ourselves... honestly, what is wrong with this country? 🐔
I'm dealing with the exact same headache. My software is pulling depreciation into section 3, "publication in progress," on the P-PPI form, when it's supposed to go into section 4, "waste expenses." So now what am I even supposed to do?
