My mom actually enrolled me back in first grade—not because we’re religious or anything, just so I wouldn't feel left out. But right before fifth grade started, I decided on my own to opt out... and after that, she didn't sign up my two younger brothers either. It wasn't like they were missing out on anything, really—they go to different schools and everything turned out fine.
Now, one of them is starting third grade and actually spoke up himself, saying he’d want to try it for at least a year just to see what it's all about. So, Mom signed him up since it was his choice.
With both of them, our priority at home is teaching them how to think critically first—everything else comes after that.
The youngest is turning eight soon. He isn't in religion class, but he still picks up bits of info just from general knowledge... and I have to tell you, the kid is obsessed with Jesus. Not in a religious way, mind you—to him, Jesus is more like a superhero figure, kind of like Superman or Spider-Man.
Sometimes he'll say, "You know how Spider-Man climbs buildings and Superman flies? Well, Jesus walks on water." 🤣 He has this kids' Bible and loves looking at the pictures of Jesus healing people... he finds it fascinating, like "Jesusman saves the day."
Hey, I'm a total lurker so I don't have enough posts for the regular classifieds, but luckily I stumbled upon this thread—hopefully this post is okay 🙂
My guy and I live in Washington, D.C. and we don't really have many friends... it gets a bit lonely just being the two of us, so maybe there's someone interesting out there who'd want to hang with us. We're actually pretty different, so I'll list our interests separately—if anything catches your eye, let us know who sounds more interesting haha
He's 25, originally from Vienna, and prefers communicating in English (though he understands American)... we mostly speak English with each other too.
By profession, he's glued to a computer 😬 just kidding, he draws his own webcomic—he's got a huge passion for drawing and comics. He's big into Marvel and DC, classic superhero stuff and all that.
He watches a ton of movies and shows; if something new drops, he's on it—all the good streaming series. He hits the theater for blockbusters quite often, which isn't really my thing, so he usually has to hunt for company for the movies... sometimes he just goes alone. He needs someone to watch the latest mainstream sci-fi with because it's just mindless to me haha, but he finds it fun.
He plays all sorts of video games, pretty much tries everything—mostly Overwatch and Path of Exile. Occasionally he'll pick up some WoW game time.
Since he's a bit of a homebody, he's put on a little weight, so he's looking for someone to motivate him to be active—maybe hit the gym or something. He likes tabletop RPGs. 🙂
And lastly, he won't say no to a casual invite for a beer and a chat. 😁
Hmm, me. I have more interests, but less social energy and motivation. I'm from Washington, D.C., I'm 19, and I communicate in English and American (plus emojis when needed).
Professionally, I'm a cook. I love anything food-related or hospitality—visiting interesting restaurants or bars, doing cooking workshops at someone's house, basically anything gastronomic. 🙂
For activities, I like hiking, badminton, walking, swimming... I'll try just about anything if someone convinces me haha.
I'm definitely missing someone to go to events with (that's actually why I'm not at Coachella right now—I have no one to go with!). Concerts, parties, festivals, city events, theater, exhibitions... I love it all. I lean more towards the alternative side of nightlife—places like Alcatraz, the Swamp, vintage industrial spots, pubs, etc. Music-wise, I'm mostly into rock, metal, industrial/dark electro, and classical, though I don't mind punk if it's good. I'm not really into pop, hip hop, or commercial EDM.
I still have the energy to go out and dance until sunrise, or just sit on a curb drinking... I love being surrounded by interesting, intelligent people who enjoy a drink and a deep conversation. 🙂
As for hobbies, I like sewing plushies or keychains; I mostly collect scrap materials and turn them into various plushie clutter. If there are people I really vibe with, I'll happily make a cute keychain or a little hanging ornament for them. I love crafts and making something out of nothing. If you do any crafting and are willing to teach me, I'm down to work alongside you. 🙂 (Workshops again! Knowledge sharing!)
I love fantasy—mostly the Elder Scrolls series and Tolkien. I don't watch a ton of movies or shows; I'll watch bits and pieces, but I generally prefer older things, dramas, historical themes, or good British comedy.
Shared interests aren't the most important thing to me, provided you're a good conversationalist—not too shy, but not overbearing either. It's hard to find that middle ground.
What I’m really looking for is a solid group of people—a circle where I can just shoot a message on Facebook saying, "Hey, let's hit up this event," or "Anyone down for coffee tomorrow?" without it feeling forced or awkward.
And honestly, there's one big thing we have in common: board games. Whether you're searching for a party for DnD, or you'd rather just grab a few beers from the corner store and play some cards at home, or maybe head to the park for a game... if you have the games but lack the crew, we're here.
From tabletop classics to Scrabble, or everything from Sorry! to Cards Against Humanity—we're in.
If any of this resonates with you and we seem like our kind of crowd, shoot us a message and let us know what caught your eye. 🙂 We're all about welcoming open, communicative, and fun people!
We have zero judgment here—we're just bored and looking for friends.
Have a great day, everyone, and good luck with the search!
I’ve been monitoring my CPU temperatures, and they're spiking like crazy the longer the system stays up—it's getting pretty bad. I'm running an AMD quad-core at 3.6 GHz, but it clearly needs a deep clean... it never used to run this hot. Honestly, I'm a little nervous about taking things apart since the hardware was expensive and I didn't build the rig myself 😬 I'll probably spend some time on YouTube to see what I can figure out regarding the teardown
George Sanders37 said:These symptoms usually pop up when the player can't find the actual song file at the location specified in the playlist. Have you moved any files around since you first built the playlist—or maybe try creating a brand new one directly in the folder where the music is actually sitting...
I haven't moved any files—if I try to point to them, that red exclamation mark pops up and gives me that exact error... then, once I restart, everything goes back to working normally. Most of these playlists haven't been touched in ages...
George Sanders37 said:Playback issues can stem from a few different things. Does that movie run okay in a different player? Have you tried reinstalling or updating VLC yet... maybe that would fix it? As far as hardware goes, it could be anything from the graphics card to the disc itself—but I’d suggest ruling out the software side first.
It’s just not working—every single media player I try is running into the same issues. Even VLC is fully updated... nothing helps.
George Sanders37 said:What kind of temperatures are you seeing after running it for a few hours? You might want to check it with some software like SpeedFan...http://www.almico.com/speedfan.phpAt first glance, this looks like issues with the graphics card...
How old is this PC—and when was the last time it actually got a good dusting?
And is we talking about a laptop or a desktop...?
I'll check the temperatures and let you know... The PC isn't exactly old—picked it up from Best Buy maybe a year or a year and a half ago. It's a desktop...
Regarding the dust issues—I ran into the exact same thing a few months back. The fan was incredibly loud... just spinning like crazy. I didn't have the extra cash to get it professionally cleaned, nor did I really have the time to drop it off somewhere, so I just opened it up myself. I did my best to clean it out using some advice from a couple of friends—though they aren't exactly experts... Anyway, the noise gradually died down until it finally stopped altogether. It’s been running quiet since then, though these problems didn't resurface immediately—it took a while. I might need to give it another cleaning soon... if anyone has any advice on that, I'm all ears. 🙂
First off, I'm running Windows 7 64... everything is fully updated—drivers, software, the whole works.
The issues start popping up after the computer has been running for a while—maybe 7 or 8 hours of uptime or more. Both Windows Media Player and VLC act up the same way.
If I try to run a playlist, the software just skips straight through every single track... 😕 Usually, the song playing stays highlighted blue, but here, the blue highlight just races down the list—nothing actually plays. It’s the same deal in VLC. However, if I just open a single file by itself instead of using a playlist, it plays perfectly fine—even on repeat. It’s strictly a playlist issue.
With VLC, it gets weirder when I'm watching a movie—as soon as I hit anything, like pause, full screen, or even a right-click, the video freezes up and glitches out... it acts like someone is spamming the pause button. Sometimes the screen even turns white for a second.
On a smaller note, there's this weird UI bug—if I minimize several windows from the same app and they stack up on the taskbar, I can't maximize any of them... except through Task Manager. If I hover over the icon to see the tiny preview windows and click one, they just vanish instead of opening. And if I click the main icon directly, nothing happens—like if I have two Chrome windows open, I can't maximize either of them.
As soon as I reboot, all these problems disappear and everything goes back to normal for a few hours. It's frustrating... having to constantly restart my machine after only 5 or 6 hours of work.
I've tried searching online, but I haven't found anyone else dealing with this, let alone a fix.
Thanks in advance for any help.
