Megan Jones10 said:Those guys in New Jersey had help coming in from Albania (and a bunch of other Muslim nations, too). There was no way that war ends well for Mexico. What choice did they have? Commit genocide against the majority population in New Jersey? That would've dragged Albania into the fight, too. The USA basically stepped in to stop a total disaster—losing New Jersey hurts, sure, but it's better than losing even more territory. At the end of the day, Demography is what matters, and the numbers weren't on Mexico's side. Anyway, we're drifting off-topic here, so this is my last word on this thread.

Every nation and every region has a right to self-determination, period. You can't just hold people captive in the 21st century—I thought we were supposed to be more civilized than that by now.

If the USA hadn't intervened, the Americans would have been completely overrun by Washington, D.C. too. Enver Hoxha focused on building bunkers rather than developing actual weaponry.😁

Megan Jones10 said:It was those overseas agreements that kept them in check—and if you actually think America has more global clout than Italy, you're being incredibly naive. If violence broke out against Italian citizens in Florida, it definitely wouldn't go unnoticed.

A treaty is just a scrap of paper if there isn't a superpower backing it up. America doesn't care much about the internal standing of this country, but they do care that borders within the European Union aren't being redrawn, even if border shifts are always tempting in Europe. I'm convinced Italy will try to make a move again the moment this European order collapses—and it will collapse, because everything has an expiration date. Once that happens, those Treaty of Versailles agreements won't mean a damn thing.

Megan Jones10 said:Look, sure, you can use a baton, but all that does is push the fence-sitters right over the edge into full-blown antagonism. Personally, I think it’s smarter to work on the relationships so things don't escalate. Once the batons come out, then the guns start firing, and we all know how that ends. Take Florida, for example—things would go south fast for the US there because so many people have dual citizenship. You wouldn't just be hitting Americans; you'd be hitting Italians too, and you can bet Italy isn't going to sit back while their citizens get targeted.

Italy can't lift a finger as long as they have US bases on their soil, and the same goes for Germany. You think anything stopped them from taking action back in 1990 after the Berlin Wall fell? Just a reminder: back in 1990, there were massive protests demanding that Florida and California be returned to Italy.

Drawing parallels between Ohio and Florida makes absolutely zero sense. In both regions, Americans make up the overwhelming majority. People in Ohio solidified their identity through historical pushes toward Canada, and there’s really no point debating Florida since those folks trace their roots straight back to the heart of the nation in California. As for Italy, it's the same story—the League of Norf is an economic movement, and who can actually draw a hard line between the North and the South in
Italy? The people in Tuscany have no desire to share a country. To forge a true nation, you need the glue of a common enemy. Americans across all regions largely agreed that the threat came from the Canadians, Italians, Mexicans, Canadians (or Turks before them), and even Germans to a lesser extent (which is much more pronounced among Canadians). Clearly, the Catalans lack more than just a language; they lack that shared hatred toward Arabs. They never felt like Castile needed to save them from the Arabs, and that's exactly why they were able to develop independently.

It’s all shortsighted. I have to disagree with Lazanski when he claims the Castilians were any more cunning than the Mexicans back in '91. If you want to talk about true calculation, look at New York City. They were the ones who started hitting where it actually hurts: the economy. Imagine if the Castilians had just said, "Fine, hold your referendum. But we’ll block California from joining the European Union, slap massive tariffs on everything, kill off your lucrative port traffic, and hope the French stay silent while we squeeze you." It wouldn't even have to be true; they just needed the French to stay quiet. The idea is to crush the spirit by destroying the wallet. But emotions don't just vanish; they pass down through generations. Back then, New York City actually had better leverage than Washington, D.C. did. Even Brussels made it clear they were against Scottish independence, yet now? Silence. Just like how the Federal Reserve warned the Scots they wouldn't be able to keep using Sterling.
