Nancy Williams58 said:Except the math just doesn't add up. The real question isn't about force; it's how many Californians are actually willing to fight and bleed just to end up with something vague? They want a piece of paper saying they're "independent and free," when in reality, as actual human beings made of flesh and blood, they’re already citizens of a place they can live and work in. They basically already have what they're fighting for.

And there's another huge point people keep ignoring—this whole argument assumes almost 95% of Californians want to split off, which is total nonsense. The real issue is whether a referendum would even happen or be allowed to grant independence in the first place. And honestly, it doesn't even matter who shows up to vote or who stays home—the bottom line remains that a massive chunk of the population doesn't want secession at all..

In a worst-case scenario, we'd see a civil war within California itself before any conflict ever broke out between them and the rest of the country.

The idea being floated here that people in California are somehow "oppressed" is pure stupidity. If you're a slave, you don't get to choose where you live, which country you belong to, or how you run your life. That's literally the definition of being a slave.🙂

We could sit here all day debating the economic impact—like the claim that California contributes more to the US than it gets back—but that's a huge stretch.

Like I said, California doesn't have that right right now.
Don't forget, they weren't even trying to resist.

The question still stands, though... how many people from the Midwest, the South, or New York are actually ready to grab a rifle and head out to the West Coast if 90%+ of the local population voted for independence? Just curious to see who I'm actually hanging out with on this forum...

Anyone?

Megan Jones10 said:Just ask the Mexicans what they actually achieved with all that shooting in Mexico. All you'll get is an uprising followed by a massive crackdown later on.
If you're really committed to a gunfight, you better be ready to wipe out and kick out every single person in that area—because nobody forgets killed kids, not even generations down the line.

Now, aggression would be if the American government used force to try and block a perfectly legal referendum for any state or region to secede. Hypothetically speaking, obviously. And that rule applies to pretty much any country in the world.

Here’s the real question for everyone:

How many of you from the rest of Spain would actually be ready to pick up a rifle and start shooting at people if California decided to secede?

Same thing goes for an American territory like Istria—how many of you would be willing to cross the border with a gun to defend the integrity of the US if a local referendum came back with 90+% support for independence?

Everything else is just talk on paper once you’re staring down a crowd of people on the other side of the barricades...

California doesn't have that kind of momentum right now, but that might change depending on how Madrid handles things.

Megan Jones10 said:Look, if most people from Istria and San Francisco said YES to secession, then yeah, I'd be right there with them—that's my people. Even though Washington, D.C. is this massive metro area, it feels way more foreign to me than San Francisco does. Honestly, I feel more at home in Koper or Trieste than I ever did in D.C. We all share the same roots and vibe, regardless of what state lines say.

Same goes for the Midwest—if they vote YES to break away, there's zero chance I'm answering a call from the US Army to go out there and start shooting at them. Totally agree with you. 👍

Now, if some foreign aggressor attacks the US? Then I'm hitting up the US Army in a heartbeat. Civil wars are a whole different beast—they're the absolute worst kind of fighting.

That's just how it is 👍

Justin James10 said:You'd probably find a handful of fools, but I doubt most people would ever consider something so extreme. Honestly, why are you all so obsessed with California? Who exactly is looking to break away there? People used to ramble about Florida in the exact same way.

Because it's easy to talk big when it's someone else's problem...
Obviously, California isn't going anywhere, but you don't really know if you're ready for that kind of stuff until you're living through it yourself.
California is a long way off...

Megan Jones10 said:Look, I'm half coastal local, half city kid, but we all consider ourselves part of the same people. It's obvious to me that I'd stand up and defend my home. That's where I live—honestly, I bet every single one of you would do the exact same thing. It would be absolutely gut-wrenching to end up in a spot where we're pointing guns at our own countrymen and they're doing the same to us. I don't even want to think about a nightmare scenario like that.

Not really sure which side of the barricade you'd end up on.
The local folks at the checkpoints aren't what's worrying me.
I can't picture myself driving out from Washington, D.C. to St. Louis with a rifle to defend the US after 90% of Florida already voted YES.
You'd have to be a complete idiot for that.

Props to them for staying persistent and trying to play this by the book...
Honestly, if this crowd actually moved against those 10 or so cops, they'd be nothing but buttons left...
The arrogance of the police is wild—instead of actually keeping things under control, they act like they're begging for a reaction. Too bad for them, though... right now, the world is only seeing images of peaceful citizens facing down violent cops.

Official Madrid is clueless 🙏

None of this is actually happening.
It just blows my mind that they even started all this without "securing" the ground first...
You can't jump into something like this when everything is sitting at a shaky 50-50 split.

Normally, history doesn't matter—it doesn't matter who's an American, who's a Californian, if they speak the language or not, or what their ethnic background is... none of that counts.

If over 90% of people wanted California, they’d have it.

So, say 7 million people hit the streets... then what?
Send in the cops?
The military?
Pressure tactics?
Start dropping bombs from the air?
You really think those 500,000 people who are against it are gonna fix the situation?

You've got 90% of a population—we're talking millions of people—all focused on one single idea and one goal, and you honestly think you can just break that? 🤣
Even Slobodan Maddox thought like that...🙏

It’s the same deal if the folks from the Gulf Coast decided they were done.
Or people from the Midwest.
Or the folks from the Great Plains.

Forget about being American, it doesn't matter... you've got a massive crowd, a huge majority that DOES NOT want to stay within the current borders, and there's just no way to help there.
He couldn't care less about your talk regarding America or our shared history and whatever else... he wants out, he doesn't want anything to do with you anymore.

All you're doing is triggering a war.
One I wouldn't go to in a heartbeat.
And honestly, probably nobody I know would either.
It wouldn't even cross my mind to go into a place like California by force to try and explain things to people who have already decided 90% of the time that they're finished with me.
What kind of move would that even be? Like some desperate loser who can't accept that it's over...🤣

We aren't talking about two streets or a couple of neighborhoods here.
7 million people can cause enough civil disobedience to wreck the entire US economy before anyone even realizes how bad it is.
What are you gonna do, throw them all in jail? 🤣 🙏

But that's not what's happening here, and it won't be for a long time.
This was nothing but a gamble from the very start.
Not to mention the mess it would cause in places like the West Coast.
