That’s exactly the issue. We're forced to make life-altering decisions while we're still practically kids. Some people head straight into vocational programs right after middle school. Imagine being fifteen years old and signing up for cosmetology school, only to hit twenty and realize, "Oh my god, am I really going to be stuck bleaching hair for the next forty years?" 😵
I probably changed my mind about my career path at least ten times between the ages of fifteen and thirty. But that's just how it goes; once you finish college, your options narrow down and there's no turning back. It would be great to live in a country where you could actually switch careers on a whim and then actually find a job in that new field, but we are nowhere near that reality here...
Is it just me, or are we living in different realities?
I’m not sure it’s actually smart to tell a 24-year-old they need a degree, especially for something like preschool teaching. There are already way too many of those positions out there, and most people struggle to find work at all—let alone in their actual field of study. Following your dreams sounds great on paper, but in this economy, it’s a massive uphill battle. Sometimes it feels impossible.
At the end of the day, you just have to be grateful to land any kind of job and focus on making the shift go by faster. You grind through those eight hours and just feel lucky that a paycheck is waiting for you at the end of it.
