The curse of postpartum melancholy in Psychology ·
goldentinker70 said:It’s not depression—it’s just melancholy
Depression is a clinical condition that requires treatment, specifically when someone loses their drive and can’t function—which isn't my situation
I am, however, completely torn apart and drained by this divorce—my energy levels have hit rock bottom
I'm exhausted and worn out, plain and simple
And honestly, things will probably stay this way through the end of the year
Maybe then things will finally start looking up

Again, I'm not depressed
I have zero interest in self-harm😉
Life just feels heavy and difficult right now

But man, when you feel like this for months or even years, that total lack of motivation starts creeping in on its own, along with those darker thoughts. Don't try to sugarcoat it—you might actually be dealing with depression. How’s your physical health doing? I'd really suggest seeing a doctor just to rule out anything else going on. People don't realize enough how often mental struggles are actually tied to something physical.

Wait, why is all of this draining you so much though? Like, maybe dating just isn't your thing right now, or you haven't crossed paths with the right person yet... or, I don't know, maybe you're just dealing with some heavy depression. If it's that last one, man, you really need to snap out of it and take action, because things are only going to get tougher if you let them... and we both know how that story ends.

I totally get where you're coming from... that whole idea of quieting your mind really does wonders for sleep, kind of like how meditation works for me!

Maybe you just hit your circadian rhythm perfectly, or maybe the sunrise caught you at just the right moment... or honestly, you might have just woken up during a REM cycle when your brain is firing on all cylinders! I really don't think it's any good for you to be getting less than 8 hours of sleep, though...
