Wild boar hit my car in Criminal and Misdemeanor Law ·

They carry State Farm.

Wild boar hit my car in Criminal and Misdemeanor Law ·
Driving to work this morning, a wild boar jumped right out in front of my car and slammed into the passenger side. Two others had crossed just before it, so I slowed down hard, almost coming to a full stop. There’s actually a warning sign for wildlife on that stretch. The police showed up, took a report, and cleared me—no speeding, zero alcohol in my system, nothing... I've got the paperwork in hand. Now I'm stuck wondering who I can actually hold accountable for the repairs. Should it be the local hunting club or the county road department? The hunting group claims they have nothing to do with it since there wasn't an active hunt scheduled that day, so they weren't even out in the woods. They say the roads aren't their territory. Meanwhile, the county says they put the sign up, so they're off the hook. If anyone has advice on which law or specific statute I could cite to move this forward, I'd really appreciate it. I'm trying to handle this quietly without dragging it into court if possible... thanks.
