It is theoretically possible for someone to be entirely indifferent to the opinions of others, but such individuals are rare outliers who exist in isolation. In the society we inhabit here in America, I suspect we are all susceptible to the judgments of those around us—often subconsciously—unless we make a concerted effort toward self-improvement. It is only through conscious awareness that we can finally mitigate that influence. Personally, I have come to accept that the perspectives of my friends and those who care for me matter deeply. Quite often, their feedback has provided a necessary vantage point, allowing me to see my own flaws and adjust the behaviors that were merely stalling my progress. Ultimately, if you recognize that external opinions are bruising your ego or causing distress, you possess the agency to stop it. One simply needs to maintain awareness...

Precisely. Happiness is essentially a state of mind. Regardless of how much capital you accumulate... though, let’s be realistic, money matters if you intend to survive in this society; that is simply how the system is structured. However, if you possess too much or far too little, something inevitably feels off. That is why the ideal exists in equilibrium—the golden mean. True contentment can be found without owning a single material thing.
