Why is everyone staring at me? in Psychology ·
Look, whenever you feel someone staring at you, that instant wave of anxiety and discomfort is totally normal. It’s basically your brain running a frantic little "scan" where you try to predict whether they’re judging you negatively.
That negative judgment is what hits the Ego hardest because, let’s be honest, the end result is always rejection.
So, in a split second, the logic goes: someone is staring -> they’re judging me -> I’m going to be rejected -> pure fear.
It’s a classic mental loop, but you can actually break the cycle by forcing yourself to step in with some actual logic instead of just reacting emotionally.
I found a few videos and some reading material that dive deeper into this.
This one covers social anxiety, which is really just an exaggerated version of that fear of being cast out.

I hope this breakdown makes sense and gives you some tools to fight off that disgusting feeling.
