How to rewire harmful subconscious beliefs in Psychology & Therapy ·

Lately, I’ve been feeling a bit burnt out, and honestly, being surrounded by such negative people doesn't help. I'm trying to refocus and boost my own energy lately. Just stay positive and things shift. 🙂

I realized I was dealing with some serious learned helplessness, so I made it my mission to break out of that cycle. I'll let you know if I actually pull it off! 🙂

If you want proof of how much mindset matters, look at me. Not long ago, I was stuck in this total lethargy—just zero motivation to move. I started running through some affirmations, and ten minutes later, I was off the couch, tackled a mountain of dishes, cleaned the entire apartment, and wondered why I was ever feeling so useless in the first place. 🙂 Bottom line: it works, as long as you're persistent and don't waste time lying to yourself about things that are clearly impossible.

The biggest win for me was when I used affirmations regarding my style and appearance. Back then, I didn't have the budget for a designer wardrobe, so I just decided to manifest a better look using exactly what I already owned. A few days later, a friend stops by and tells me, "Wow, you've really leveled up your style lately!" 🙂 Meanwhile, I was wearing the same green T-shirt I'd worn a dozen times before. That's when it hit me—it's all about the energy. Nothing else.

This is just a band-aid fix. It's fine while you're actively putting in the effort, but eventually, everyone burns out from trying that hard.
It might be better to just aim for being "moderate" or "normal" instead of chasing euphoria. After a high comes a massive crash, and those constant mood swings are exhausting.

It’s one thing to feel stuck, but it's another to drag those looping, unconscious patterns out of the basement and into the light where you can actually deal with them. I'm talking about shifting from just feeling "off" to pinpointing the exact mental block preventing a better life.

And once you find it, how do you swap out a toxic belief for something actually useful? What’s the mechanism for replacing a lie with a truth?

Has anyone here actually pulled this off? Any real-world experience with breaking these cycles?

If the belief is subconscious—meaning you say you need to become aware of it—how do you even know it exists in the first place? Maybe the issue isn't some hidden belief you need to fix. Maybe you're just using the idea of a "limiting belief" as an excuse.

I might be wrong, but my take is that there aren't any fixed "beliefs." Everything shifts constantly depending on what’s happening in your life and what stage you're currently going through.
