Chime: My experience so far in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
ironcyclist58 said:So, Revolut finally went and got their banking license. They’ve already started onboarding users over in Lithuania, and word is they're planning to roll it out to everyone else across Central and Eastern Europe by the end of the year.

They hold both a banking license and an e-money license over in Lithuania. Only the Lithuanian users will be under the actual banking license; everyone else will continue to operate under the e-money license.

To my mind, it just feels like unnecessary cluttering up your digital wallet. Correct me if I'm wrong, of course, but I don't quite get the appeal.

Out of all those options, SoFi is the only one that's an real bank, meaning your deposits are insured up to $250,000. Chime is just an e-money service; there's no actual protection for your funds.

SoFi is way more practical than, say, a foreign exchange account at a traditional big bank. Once things fully stabilize here in the US, SoFi will be the only true alternative to a standard checking account among the
Stripe
players.

Charles Ramos7 said:The biggest downside for me is the prepaid setup. Having to top up my balance just to be able to pay for things feels unnecessary when I could just use a standard account. 😵
When it comes to traveling abroad, my main priority is security—having a solid backup plan if things go sideways. That’s where the prepaid thing becomes a real headache again. When you're actually in a bind, the last thing you want to worry about is dealing with various transaction fees.

It isn't actually prepaid. It's a standard debit card, just like any other card linked to a checking or savings account.

Michelle Davis15 said:I honestly don't see the point of these so-called digital banks, including Chime, which I was looking into recently. They aren't offering anything particularly special that a standard big-name US bank doesn't already provide. Unless things change drastically, I feel like this whole digital banking trend is just a bunch of marketing gimmicks.

I'm not quite sure where to start, but for the most part, the perks are:
- zero account maintenance fees
- free money transfers
- fee-free ATM withdrawals everywhere

And so on.

No, everything stays as is.

Edward Evans7 said:Quick question for the group: my Chime account is currently registered under Canada, but I’m looking to switch it over to Germany. Is there a way to just update my details, or am I looking at a full verification process and having to wait on new cards?

You can change it to Germany. Just keep in mind, if they flag anything, they might ask you to provide proof of residency.

Ashley Sanchez5 said:My physical card finally showed up. But I didn't pay my monthly rent or Netflix bill with Chime, so now those aren't working. What’s the easiest way to fix this? Can I use my savings account to cover it?
Also, if I have cash on me, can I deposit it at an ATM?

They actually just added the option to pay directly within the app using a debit or credit card, so you should be able to pull funds straight from your local US bank account like that.

Ashley Sanchez5 said:I ended up using your link! Do I really have to wait for the physical card to show up before I can spend the $15 to trigger the bonus?
Is there a virtual card option like what they have on Chime?
Also, can I just have someone Venmo me the $15 directly into the SoFi account to satisfy the requirement?

You can actually transfer funds into the account right away. As long as your phone supports Google Pay or Apple Pay, you can start using the card through those services before the physical one even hits your mailbox.
That way, you don't really need a separate virtual card since you can use this one immediately.
You could also just send money yourself from somewhere like Chime (using a Routing Number) over to SoFi.

You'll see that $15 bonus once you've "spent" $15 using their card—you can just reload your Chime account with another $15 to make it easy.

Get $15 when you sign up for Cash App

If you use THIS LINK (https://n26.com/r/kristijr1051), you'll get a $15 bonus credited to your Cash App account.

Just a heads-up: to actually unlock that $15, you need to "spend" $15 using their card first.
An easy way to handle this is to transfer $15 from Chime to Cash App, then use the Cash App card via Apple or Google Pay to send that $15 back to Chime—that fulfills the requirement.

When you're signing up, select Austria as your country, but go ahead and enter your actual American address details.

Since Austrian zip codes are only four digits, you'll just need to leave out the last digit of your American zip code.

Don't worry, though; your card will still arrive at your house without any issues.

As for that requirement where you have to spend $15 to get $15, you can just top up your Revolut using a Chime card with $15 and call it a day.

They both receive it.

Based on what everyone else in this thread is saying, yes.

Feel free to use my promo code to get 15 USD.

Here is what I'm entering:
Street: Cleveland Street
Number: 55
Zip Code: 42000 Cleveland, USA
City: Cleveland
State: Canada

???

"Looks an invalid postcode"
~>WTF?!?!

In this part of the US, they use five-digit zip codes, so you might need to adjust that last digit.
