I've lost my drive. What do I do? in Psychology ·
Honestly, if you have the chance to switch to a reduced schedule—assuming your bank account can handle the hit—you should totally take it. At least, that's what I'd do. 😁
As for ambition... I don't know, it feels kind of fleeting to me. Most ambitious people eventually hit a wall where they just want to "cool off" for a bit, but they rarely stay in that headspace for long because they eventually start craving that adrenaline rush again. I guess the only way you actually pivot to something else entirely is if you feel like you've checked every box on your list, or if you're just plain bored with everything you've accomplished. 🤷
Then there are those people who insist a job should only be a paycheck, without any need for excitement or purpose—honestly, they’re probably just projecting their own burnout onto everyone else. Sure, there are seasons in life, or maybe certain temporary gigs, where work is just about the money, but the idea of spending your entire life just "clocking in" for a salary, with zero interest and nothing that aligns with who you actually are? That sounds like a nightmare to me.
But hey, look at me—I'm still just starting to build my career, so maybe I'm being a bit too idealistic here. Still, I really don't want to fall into the mindset that work is nothing more than a way to get paid.
