Joshua Gray75 said:Hmm... yes... it seems they are indeed merging the municipalities.
As of now, nothing in my local area is "official"—it remains merely a proposal at this stage.
But even that constitutes progress, I suppose...

I believe I was correct in my earlier assertion that these municipal mergers would be imminent...

Given this, might one reasonably hope that by the end of the month, the movement to lift those county-level permits will also expand? 🤔😁

Since you nailed the town situation, maybe you've got some insight on the counties too.
hollowviper said:Is there any way to actually get a quote for property maintenance? Does anyone here have a lead on that? I mean, I guess it all just comes down to whether the local management office feels like being helpful or not, right?

Not sure if they'll give you a pass for a specific reason
But honestly—when it comes to getting these passes approved—it all boils down to whether some guy in charge decides to be helpful or not. Just pure whim, really.
They trap us within four walls and then tell us to work on our immune systems. Just get out into nature—stay home. It’s nothing but constant contradictions. Honestly, you guys can't even decide if you're sending us away or bringing us in. This whole thing is going to wreck everyone's health, leaving us totally vulnerable to whatever beast decides to strike next.
Quick question for everyone on this thread. Has anyone actually tried to bypass a checkpoint without a pass and had the cops turn them away? Looking for real, confirmed cases here—not just "he said, she said" rumors.

I don't get you.
driftingfox6 said:Then you have some individual or even the government just cutting you off from your partner indefinitely. And then they act surprised when young people don't want to start families here, especially when so many people lack any sense of financial security. You never know when you might find yourself unemployed.

I’m currently stuck away from my own home—just a ten-minute drive away—because this law won't let me pass through.

I’m twenty-five minutes out from mine—he can’t get to me, and I can't get to him without a permit.
As for work, I’ve been unemployed for twelve months now. And he lost his job because of all this mess. We’ll push through it, but man, we just need them to let us live our lives.
hollowviper said:What would you guys do if they actually hit you with a fine?

Look, I'm not claiming to be some legal expert here—just my two cents—but I don't think they're actually handing out fines to everyone. It seems like they’re just targeting the people straight-up breaking self-isolation rules. Even Božinović mentioned that the goal isn't to punish folks, it's just about getting people back where they belong. I mean, can they even legally fine someone if no actual law was broken? This whole thing feels more like a directive than an official statute passed by Congress.

P.S. I'm definitely no lawyer, so everything above is just me guessing based on what I'm seeing.

They haven't caught me yet, and I'm really hoping they don't, but if they do decide to pull me over, they can try and hit me with a fine for all it matters to me.

Are you hitting up the small towns or did you actually manage to pull it off in the city?
electricbadger89 said:How could you possibly not get it? Being with someone you love isn't exactly a matter of life or death (sarcasm)

Fine, sarcasm accepted.
Look, I get that it doesn't matter much to some random third party, but for those of us actually putting in the work and trying to build something real? Yeah, it matters.
hollowviper said:Some people aren't even getting permits for basic errands, much less for something like this! It's pretty pathetic that there aren't any uniform criteria for issuing these passes. In one place, you might get approved for the reason you gave, but in another, you won't. It's the same deal with being allowed to go to the grocery store or the bank—some people get the green light, and others don't.

I'm right there with you—it's wild that we're all just waiting on some random bureaucrat to decide what counts as "essential" for our lives.
Justin Phillips15 said:Has anyone managed to get a pass to visit a girlfriend or boyfriend living in another city? I think I can handle this if it only lasts another month or two, but if this drags on until the fall, I just can't deal with being locked down so much that I can't see the person I love.

Nope. I reached out on Monday and gave them the straight story just to see how they handle things, but they shot me down—said my reason wasn't "valid" enough for a pass. It didn't even matter that we haven't traveled at all and have been following every single rule since day one. Neither I nor my guy are in isolation, we haven't been near anyone sketchy, and honestly, we don't even have a sniffle, let alone actual symptoms.
I'm not asking for some pass to go wandering around aimlessly. I just want permission to get from point A to point B so I can stay somewhere for a set amount of time.
And yeah, I agree with what you said—we might survive a month or two, but if this keeps up... I mean, we can't all just live in long-distance relationships for 12-18 months or longer.

So, yeah, who knows. I'm hoping someone actually got lucky or will soon—if you do, please drop a line and let us know.
hollowmason64 said:As soon as he starts spending government money, he’s essentially being funded by the federal budget.

instead of the state actually helping workers...

The government *is* helping workers through those measures they give to employers. I mean, if those weren't in place, how many people do you think would have ended up on unemployment by now?

I really wonder whose "good" it actually is, considering there were over a thousand idiots who were supposed to be in isolation but decided to go for a little stroll instead. Some of them even headed out to the pharmacy.
I find it hard to believe you guys aren't angry at people like that. They are the ones truly responsible for these kinds of restrictions.
Just like the group from Washington, D.C. who headed down to the coast and brought the virus right to us.

Oh, please... people go through so much in life, yet suddenly staying inside for a couple of weeks is too much to ask?
To me, it seems like the biggest issue is that most people can't stand being stuck with their partner 24/7. Everyone always complains about not having enough time for family or kids, but now that everyone is together, all they do is moan about how to escape one another.

Then there's me—part of that tiny minority. I'd actually love spending 24/7 with my partner, but instead, we're separated by a 20-minute drive and a county line. With the travel restrictions in place, we're basically stuck in a long-distance relationship now. We can handle a few weeks, maybe a month... but the real question is, how much longer is this going to last? Nobody has a clue.
Here’s yet another way they're tightening the leash—honestly, where does this all end?
I honestly don't know about you guys, but I’m dying to know what gives our task force and those politicians in D.C. the confidence that they aren't just passing this thing around asymptomatic while hanging out together?
Everyone’s been running on fumes for over a month now—constant stress (which totally trashes your immune system)—plus all that constant mingling with people and reporters...

It’s wild. We’re the ones who actually need doctor appointments—which are basically impossible right now since labs are slammed—or oncology patients trying to figure out how to even get their treatments done. Or we have to jump through hoops just to see our own families, yet they can just wander around freely?

Look, I’m all for being responsible and looking out for the most vulnerable among us, but they’ve got us squeezed into such tiny little boxes. The rules don't apply equally to everyone, and once again, folks in the smaller towns are getting the short end of the stick.
Sean Stewart said:So, according to the logic floating around, anyone of us who hasn't seen their partner, kids, or grandparents in weeks is just a complete fool. While some people are apparently allowed to crowd through the aisles at Walmart or Target because there’s a sale on power tools or pajamas, others aren't permitted to see a loved one living just 1.2 miles away in a different county—and before the critics jump down my throat, I truly believe that if someone who only hits the grocery store once every few days drops by to see a person living alone who hasn't left their house in two weeks, they aren't exactly fueling an outbreak.

Essentially, it’s fine—nobody is going to give me a hard time if I swing by a coworker's house to see her three kids—but if I visit my uncle who lives by himself, or my boyfriend in the next county over? No, no, absolutely not. That's strictly forbidden.

I'm with you.

They restricted everything to your home zip code—it's clear the folks in charge don't give a damn about the fact that a tiny rural town might only have one little corner store that doesn't carry everything you need.
It really shows how much these local jurisdictions mess things up. 19 miles is my closest major city. Chicago has nearly 3 million people and everything you could ever want right there, yet a town of a thousand people is stuck completely paralyzed. It makes zero sense.

Just scrap the small towns and stick to the counties.
Let's huddle up in this thread since we're all pretty much stuck in place anyway.
How are you guys actually handling being cut off from your loved ones?

I'll kick things off—my grandparents live in the next county over, totally alone. They can't just head to the doctor, grab meds, or even hit an ATM whenever they need to... they're basically trapped in a tiny town with one little corner store. And if you want a travel permit, they demand some "valid reason"—I mean, what could be more valid than that? Even if they grant it, it's only for a single day. But people need check-ins, you know? So, what, you seriously have to beg for permission every single time you want to look after your own family?!

On top of that, my boyfriend is only 20 minutes away, but I’d have to cross two different counties just to see him. We're toughing it out for now, hoping this doesn't drag on, but if this lasts more than a month or two? It's gonna be brutal for everyone.

Let me hear your thoughts and how you're feeling—let's try to lift each other up a bit.

Edit: maybe I didn't set this thread up quite right, so if a moderator could fix it up, that'd be great.
