The banks should have seen this coming... They dropped the ball on that one too.

Personally, I know I wouldn't be... So, how do you, BTW, usually handle people who won't pay up after you guys already had an agreement in place?

What "screwing over" are you even talking about? There's no bullshit going on with the bank.
And don't be ridiculous—you can't compare yourself as an individual to a major institution like Chase.
I was giving you some solid advice, and you're attacking me for it. 🙄

So, I used to juggle accounts at Zabina, Hypo, and Bank of America... A few years back, I pulled my money out of Zabina after my CD matured, closed everything down there, and moved over to Hypo—mostly because their rates were better and, honestly, Zabina’s arrogance was getting old. Everything with them feels unnecessarily complicated, and their rules are always just so... 🙄...

I still keep things with Hypo today, mainly because they have a decent prepaid card, and I guess I just like having a backup account or two...

Now, Bank of America is the real deal if you actually need to do business internationally. I’ve got my checking, savings, and foreign currency accounts all there... Sending money abroad is cheap and straightforward. Their online banking smelled a little funky at first, but it works perfectly fine, and I suppose I'll eventually get used to the interface. I can usually sort most things out via email with my personal banker...

My son is a college student and uses Bank of America too—he’s totally happy with it...

Oh, and just for the record, I haven't owed any of them a dime, and I certainly haven't missed any payments. I wouldn't even know how people act in those situations (and frankly, I don't care... I don't view banks as charities or buddies; they're a service meant to work for me, and that's how they behave) 🤷

Disclaimer: Between using my IB to pay bills at Hypo and Bank of America, I'm looking at maybe 3 or 5 bucks total in fees... And as for how much profit the bank makes off my neck? I don't really care. I only worry about what I'm making and whether I'm getting my money's worth from what I'm paying for...

And you're better off staying current, kid, or you'll see what they're really made of. They turn into monsters. Worse than war criminals. You'll face such relentless banking harassment that you'll wish you were in a concentration camp. And they do it all legally, because they've got the police and the entire judicial system backing them up. Behind all that is a nation of millions of idiots in this zombie state—plus another fifty thousand in the neighboring zombie state—who keep voting for the same political cliques that rigged the whole system.
So pay your bills on time, son. Just remember that behind every smiling teller is a brainwashed drone ready to do whatever their greedy bosses and executives tell them to do.
Just smile, pay up, and don't ask too many questions.
Good luck. 👍

Alexander Thompson said:Yeah, sure, whatever you say... It’s always the banks' fault, right? Or those accountants pumping out shady income statements, or the local clerks who didn't bother explaining what foreign currency even means. Maybe it's the developers overcharging for condos, or those car salesmen who conveniently forgot to mention that after seven years of payments, you won't have enough left over for a tank of gas. It's gotta be the communists, the conservatives, the radicals... everyone except the people who went out there with a "live for today" attitude and signed up for massive loans they clearly couldn't afford in the first place...

Banks are the ones most to blame, because... They didn't have the nerve. Handing out loans "right here, right now."
People are like sheep. Most don't bother thinking about the consequences; they just grab whatever is put in front of them. And the banks? If they’d actually acted responsibly, they would have been way more careful about who they handed loans to. Instead, they just shoved credit cards and overdrafts down everyone's throats without any restraint. Their whole policy was basically: "Just take it, we don't care what happens tomorrow." Well, look at the mess we're in now.

Alexander Thompson said:I mean, I’ve been thinking about this lately—it feels like the whole American economy is just being run into the ground by people trying to live a lifestyle they straight-up can't afford. It’s like everyone is out there grabbing massive loans for things that are way out of their reach, and then, well, they can't pay them back. And honestly? It makes me wonder if it’s even worth it when you realize you’re handing over a dollar or two every single month just to keep a basic checking account open at some big bank like Chase or Wells Fargo. It just seems... I don't know, a bit broken.

Why would banks hand out loans to people who clearly can't pay them back? Isn't that just plain irresponsible?
This whole crisis started because banks were throwing money at anyone with a pulse, regardless of whether they qualified for a single cent. They figured someone else would pick up the tab—likely the federal budget (which is where we're headed).
And they haven't stopped.
Yet here you are, acting like their biggest defenders.

Charles Ramos7 said:Of course they can. Though honestly, there’s no reason to let just anyone handle banking business.

Spot on. I'm with you there. We need actual regulations in place. Right now, we've got a situation where any random person can run a currency exchange—usually out of some sketchy little kiosk or hole-in-the-wall. Then everyone acts surprised when they get ripped off.

Maybe you're so worked up over the Bohemian guy that your brain has completely stopped functioning.
I laid out exactly what I wanted in post #47. What part of that was confusing? Need me to draw you a map?

Quincey:
...all of us defending the banks...
😂😂😂

You're defending the very people working hand-in-hand with the Democrats and Republicans to systematically tear this country apart.

I'm sure your mother is proud. 😁

Charles Ramos7 said:So what does that actually do for me? Who’s to say a Kraft Heinz executive isn't also moving profits abroad just because they're American? Even if they aren't, I'm still not seeing any direct benefit to my own pocket.

That's already covered by law.

Oh, really? I had no idea... Did you know they actually change laws sometimes?
And it's not like banks have to write them all themselves.

The issue isn't about finding someone who can do it cheaper; it's about ensuring an American company—specifically one under domestic ownership—is the one doing the work. These banking giants rake in hundreds of millions in fees, and a massive chunk of those profits just gets shipped overseas.
At the end of the day, I want people to have options. People should be able to choose whether they want their checking account handled by a big bank or not.

placidmaker6 said:Yeah, but only if (when) the IRS decides to start acting like a bank.

Fat chance.
Since you brought it up, there was actually talk not that long ago about merging the IRS with Wells Fargo. There were even talks involving HP Inc. and State Farm later on, all aimed at building a massive American banking powerhouse. Then, suddenly, the whole idea just vanished. Someone clearly got shut down... hard. 🍿

Charles Ramos7 said:And if there weren't fees for managing an account, do you honestly think the IRS or someone else would just hand you that money as a gift? :klap:

Of course there’s a cost, but we aren't talking about life-altering amounts here. Technology has moved on. I just checked my own account—my bank charges me $2.25 a month, and that doesn't even include the fee if I wanted them to mail me a statement via USPS.
In America, there are easily over three hundred million checking accounts out there—which translates to an annual revenue of roughly $30 billion. To you, that sounds like pocket change that wouldn't move the needle.
😵

Charles Ramos7 said:You're just frustrated and don't understand how money works, but honestly, nothing would actually change.

And you're just a corporate shill.

Nothing would change? Give me a break. These banking vultures are charging me nearly $33 a year just for a checking account. And let's be real—those fees are pretty much identical across every major bank out there.

goldenmoose21 said:I’ve been with JPMorgan Chase for about 15 years now, and honestly, I couldn't be happier with them. On one occasion, I had to open an account at Bank of America for some business reasons, and if I could give you one piece of advice, it would be to avoid them like the plague. It was an absolute disaster from start to finish—from the incredibly rude staff to their archaic, broken computer systems; they treat you like you don't know any better. To make matters worse, when it finally came time to close that account, what should have been a six-minute task at any other bank turned into a nightmare. I had to show up four days in a row just to try and shut it down, and they still couldn't manage to do it. Eventually, I just lost my temper, handed them all my paperwork, and told them to call me once they actually managed to close it. It took three whole weeks for it to finally happen. I wouldn't step foot in that branch again if my life depended on it.

It's the same story with every bank. When you want to open an account or deposit money, everything moves smoothly. Just hand over the cash and you're golden. But the second you want to close something? They treat you like garbage. That's how American banks operate. They lure you in with a smile, but the moment things don't go their way, the mask slips.

casuallynx8 said:It isn't actually about some "banking cartel"; it’s a matter of the US Federal Government passing legislation that mandates these specific structures.

It seems somewhat illogical to assume this rule was cooked up solely due to bank lobbying. If you look at the timeline—this was implemented relatively recently, perhaps a year or two ago—nearly everyone was already using traditional banks for their payroll. Very few people were still receiving their wages in cash back then.

So, if you're looking for someone to blame, take it up with Joe Biden and his associates.

Both Republicans and Democrats are doing the same thing—kissing the banks' asses instead of working for the people. This whole CHF at 6.39 thing is just theater for the naive. The GOP isn't any better.
I've been paying my bills through Fidelity Investments for ages. I won't even touch online banking because I refuse to feed those greedy bankers. I just hope I live long enough to see the day when I can actually open a checking account at Fidelity.

Charles Ramos7 said:I don't think they qualify as "payment system providers" in the sense of managing checking accounts. For instance, the post office uses Wells Fargo as a partner for those kinds of services. Besides, even if they could, what would actually change for us?

It would make a difference because I—and plenty of other people—have zero interest in dealing with those bureaucratic banking dinosaurs. It's like how everyone stopped wanting to deal with Exelon, so now people just buy their electricity from other providers.
Best bank in America? in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
Charles Ramos7 said:If that’s what you meant, why didn't you just say so? You didn't mention loans in the thread title or anywhere else in your posts.

I did write it. Check post #27.

Anyway, while we're talking about direct deposits, why are we forced to use a specific bank just to receive our paychecks? Why can't we choose? Why couldn't we have our income sent through, say, Fidelity Investments or even a local shipping hub service? They're part of the payment system too, just like banks.
Of course, we don't get a choice because the banking cartel won't allow it.

Charles Ramos7 said:And where exactly am I supposed to get my paycheck delivered?🤦 Then I guess I'll be paying premium prices for everything in cash because I've abandoned all banking services and can't touch anything online. Thanks for the "brilliant" advice.😵

My comment was aimed at the geniuses thinking about taking out a loan for this guy.

I know you need a bank account to receive a salary. I'm not an idiot.

I’d honestly rather deal with a tumor than try taking out a loan from Bank of America—at least there's a chance you can beat a tumor.

Get out of the banks while you still can. Seriously, just run...
