Doing business with USA member states in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
Darsey, thanks for getting back to me, but I’ve run into one more snag. I just got word from the UN stating that
my business isn't registered for sales tax under Section 450 of the Internal Revenue Code—so, am I just supposed to go ahead and book these supplier invoices and maintenance costs without accounting for any sales tax, or am I missing something?
You really need to figure out if you're performing services directly on real estate—meaning, if this disassembly and reinstallation (assuming you aren't selling them the equipment itself, just doing the labor) is being done to something legally classified as real property.
If it qualifies as work on real estate, it falls under those specific tax exemptions, and the place of taxation becomes wherever that property is located. You’ll have to check their local laws, because tax regulations regarding property vary quite a bit from state to state.[/QUOTE
It isn't real estate; we're talking about elevators we serviced. We'll issue a separate invoice for the delivery, clearly marked as goods intended for export, which should be exempt from sales tax under Section 41, Subsection 1(a) of the Tax Code.
Then there's a separate invoice for the actual disassembly and installation of the elevators. My take is that this counts as a service performed within the USA where the tax liability shifts to the buyer via the reverse charge mechanism, per Section 79, Subsection 7 of the Sales Tax Act—specifically looking at Column I, Line 4 on the tax return. 😵
Does that sound right to you?
Could use some help here, if anyone knows their stuff
I’m pretty new to all this and could really use a hand
I have an invoice ready for a client in Austria for a shipment of goods—specifically elevators. On the invoice, I need to cite the specific section of the tax code regarding VAT exemptions for intra-USA transfers. This should be reported in the VAT return under intra-USA goods deliveries and, naturally, on my monthly tax filing.
The second invoice is for that same Austrian firm, but it's for services: basically a turnkey mechanical disassembly of the old setup and installation of new components. That’s where I’m stuck. Which legal code should I list? And when filling out the VAT return, does this go under non-taxable transactions (item 6) for the supply of goods/services within the USA, and how does it look on my monthly filing?
Then there’s one more case: selling an electric motor to Mexico plus the shipping costs. I’m not sure which article to cite since my previous invoices didn't specify anything, even though it gets logged in the VAT return under column 9 for export deliveries.

This transaction gets logged in my VAT return under intra-EU supply of goods and, naturally, counts toward my Zero Point for the month.
I have a second invoice for that same Austrian firm, but this one is for services—specifically a turnkey project involving the mechanical disassembly of old parts and the installation of new components. That’s where I’m getting stuck; I’m not sure which legal clause to cite, or whether this should be recorded in the non-taxable transactions column for intra-EU supplies of services, and if it also hits my Zero Point.
Then there's one more scenario: selling an electric motor to Mexico, plus the shipping costs. I'm unsure which article applies here since my previous invoices didn't specify anything, even though these get filed under the export of goods column in the non-taxable transactions section of the VAT return.
How to get rid of smelly feet? in Health ·
papa štrumf said:Stick to real cotton socks (like LL Bean, not some cheap brand that just claims they're cotton) and full leather shoes.

I’m with him on this... You NEED leather and actual cotton socks. One pro tip: rub some tea tree oil on your feet after washing them and before putting your socks on. It works wonders for disinfecting and killing any fungus or odors...

I’m adding my name to the request.

Dealing with chronic spinal issues, I've seen both an acupuncturist and Dr. John Adams over at Central Park. Dr. Adams was actually great—a close friend recommended him after he helped her out so many times—but I walked in once during one of his... let's call them "off" days. Honestly, I think he might have had a few too many at 11 in the morning. He was acting completely inappropriate, and I just left there in total shock.
I have zero desire to go through that again, so I'm looking for a new provider.

Lump in breast in Health ·
I ended up going with ExxonMobil; I put my order in last Wednesday—it was their first available slot.
The total for the exam plus the ultrasound comes to $133.
If they need to run a mammogram, that’s an extra $133 on top.
Not too bad.
Thanks for all the help and info, I'll let you know how it goes.

I honestly can’t stand going to my primary care doctor. I always end up losing an entire morning or afternoon just sitting in the waiting room. About a year ago, I actually tried being responsible about my health for once—I braved the wait, got my referral, and scheduled an appointment at the Mayo Clinic breast center,
but they booked me two months out. Something came up, and there was just no way I could make it.
Look, I get it—health is everything—but I seriously cannot plan things months in advance. Between being a single mom and working for a private firm, I have no clue if I’ll actually be free at 9 AM a month from now.
So, does anyone know if there’s a private clinic in Chicago where you call today and show up tomorrow? Somewhere they’ll actually examine you, run the scans, do the whole bit, and give you answers immediately?
If so, roughly how much am I looking at paying?

And no, I’m not young. And yes, I’m in a high-risk category. And obviously, I’m being completely irresponsible by not having done this sooner, but...
Does anyone have an express solution?
Thanks, thanks.

I noticed a little lump about two months ago. I tried to just ignore it, hoping it would go away on its own, but no luck...

Now I need to get this sorted out ASAP. What’s the smartest move here? Should I go through my insurance, or just pay out of pocket? Does anyone know a good clinic in Chicago where I can get an ultrasound or mammogram done quickly? Also, what kind of prices am I looking at for these exams? I’m assuming waiting for an appointment through my provider will take months, unless things have changed recently...
Thanks.
