How to sign up for Medicare in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
Could you walk me through exactly what I need to turn in and who actually needs it? Here’s the deal—I’m moving from one job in one city over to a new gig in a different city, and things are moving pretty fast, so there's zero time to waste.
From what I gather, my current employer just needs to de-register me from the pension system through the online portal. Once they do that, how long does it usually take before I can get an official paper or some kind of confirmation of my de-registration to show my new boss?

So, I’m finally moving from my training program into a "real" job. One of the first things on my to-do list is sorting out the paperwork to opt out of the pension scheme. Does anyone know how long that process actually takes? Also—can I just walk into the Social Security office and handle it in person, or am I stuck doing everything online?
Speed camera caught me with out-of-state plates in Criminal and Misdemeanor Law ·
That’s exactly my point—so far, I’ve talked to seven different people tied to law enforcement, including five actual officers—some handling traffic and others working the border—and not a single one of them gave me the same story as the last guy. It’s wild. You get everything from "don't sweat the fine, it's not happening," to some guy telling me, "Look, the paperwork takes five or six months, then your car gets flagged in the Border Patrol system, and you won't be able to cross back into the States until you settle up," or even just, "Don't worry, the ticket will show up at your house in a few months." And then there's the blunt version: "You're screwed the next time you hit the border crossing."

So, this guy—who’s actually second on my list—is telling me that there isn't any contract of that nature signed by anyone at all.

So, here’s the deal with my situation:

A cousin of mine—who happens to be a highway patrol officer—told me they can't just mail a ticket to your house. He said unless they catch you right at the border, they can either hand it to you on the spot or force you to pay then and there.

Then I asked a buddy who works over at a precinct in Miami, and he was like, "Look, they can't do anything to you at the border. Unless a trooper pulls you over while you're actually on US soil, you've got to pay... otherwise, you're looking at jail time. Take your pick."

Another guy from a local precinct told me to just call 911 and ask for traffic enforcement—they'd give me the straight answer.

But then someone from a traffic unit told me that if we have an address in Canada, the fine will definitely find its way there and we'll have to settle up.

To top it all off, a friend of mine in Border Patrol says that since everything is marked with foreign plates, no fine is ever going to reach us—not at the border and not at our home address.

Honestly, this is driving me crazy—everyone is giving me different stories.

And what happens if, say, I decide to swap out my license plates during the next registration period?

So, where would the fine even go—to my address back in Canada?
And is there any chance they won't show up at my door, or am I just gonna get grilled by the cops at the border instead?

The real issue is that criminals and killers are always going to find a way to slip through the cracks—while us regular folks end up footing the bill for ourselves and everyone else...

Man, tell me about it. But honestly, right now my head is just stuck on the stuff I mentioned above

So, I just got caught by a speed camera in San Francisco—right by the Walmart on Split Street. Honestly, I have no clue how fast I was actually going, but man, those fines are getting ridiculous no matter how you look at it.
The thing is, I’m a citizen of Canada, I’ve got my license from there, and my car has Canadian plates. So, I'm wondering:
1) When am I actually going to get the ticket?
2) Where is it going to be sent?
3) What's the absolute worst-case scenario for the fine?

My Lenovo IdeaPad Y560. Everything just installed itself—it looks like Windows handled the drivers automatically
Edit, figured it out—the system was actually smart enough to grab the right drivers on its own

I'm talking about a laptop here—is there any way at all to check that directly within the BIOS?

Writing this from my phone, so it's a bit of a pain to hunt down the right thread for what's going on, but I'm hoping I'm in the right spot here.
Basically, I just did a clean reinstall of Windows, and now I can't get online at all—just seeing that red 'X' over the connection icon. When I checked Device Manager, under network adapters -> realtek rtl8192de wireless lan 802.11n pci-e nic mac1, there’s a yellow warning triangle popping up. The device status box says: device cannot start ERROR code 10. I tried updating it, but it keeps telling me the latest version is already installed. Any ideas? Help!
Checking on my checking account in Banking, Insurance & Loans ·
So, just a heads-up for anyone running errands around town—that one ATM tucked inside the Chase branch over in the West End? It actually lets you deposit cash. Most of the other standalone machines around the city—like the ones near the waterfront, downtown, or out by the suburbs—don't have that option. Just wanted to save someone a wasted trip!

Just sitting here at the Chase branch on 5th Street.
Quick dummy question for you guys—so, I've got my checking account, right? Let’s say I withdraw $333, head over to a sportsbook, and walk away with $1333. If I go to place a bet, am I going to get hit with some kind of tax? Like, am I going to end up owing the IRS anything for that?
