IRS and Tax Filing Issues in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
I’ve got some questions for Nancy—if she can find a moment to reply... though anyone else with similar experience is more than welcome to jump in.
I handle the bookkeeping for several clients, all of whom have authorized me through my SSN (I run my own small business).
The thing is, since the Treasury keeps breathing down my neck for fees—honestly, they’re being fair enough, but still, at least $667 🙂 a year—I really want to cut ties with them.
Since I’ve had to renew my digital certificate multiple times already (my two-year contract expired ages ago), I can revoke my current one immediately for $27. If I do that, it should automatically strip away everyone else who is "linked" to my certificate.
Using my own digital ID, I managed to successfully sign and submit everything to the IRS this month for all my clients—it was honestly such a relief!
I also used my digital health card to log in and view all the clients I’m authorized for, so that part works perfectly fine too.
However, I’ve wasted an entire day trying to deal with the federal health portal, and I still haven't been able to get through via Grants.gov.
1. Is it possible to access the health portal through Grants.gov, or am I stuck dealing with the bureaucratic nightmare at the Treasury just for that?
One more thing—I have about five B2G e-invoices to send out every month. How did Nancy manage to bypass the Treasury for this? I need some advice,
2. Who offers the most affordable and straightforward service for this? If the rates are low enough, I’d love to switch everything over—sending and receiving both B2B and B2G invoices.
At the local branch, the Treasury charges $17 for the initial setup, and then $10 per invoice sent—it’s absolutely highway robbery.
....thanks.
What exactly do those purple-to-dark blue blotches mean—the ones appearing on the upper arms and down toward the feet of a patient who's already in the terminal stage?

Regarding the participation requirements—I need proof of income, but the individual has been out on maternity leave for the last six months. How exactly am I supposed to satisfy that requirement?

Thanks for that. Regarding the processing back in April—I had one cancellation and one enrollment where the CDC website handled everything within the same day, but Medicare didn't get me activated until April 29th after a 20-day wait. Not that it mattered much, since I'd already finished all my paperwork manually by then.

Does the M3P process apply when you're just extending a fixed-term contract? And what about health insurance? Or do they just draft a new agreement without making any changes to the benefits and coverage?
I’ve been following this thread for about a year and a half now—just wanted to offer a bit of encouragement to everyone here and say that there are actually quite a lot of us lurking in the shadows. We mostly just stay quiet because we're keeping an eye on things for our family members, even if we don't jump into the conversation ourselves.

I'm feeling a little indecisive here—should I just hit accept, or is it safer to decline this one?

I usually just ignore all those updates until something actually breaks—only then do I bother installing them. I used to be one of those people who clicked "accept" immediately, and man, did that cause me headaches... constant uninstalling, reinstalling, troubleshooting, you name it...

Are they actually asking you for a gross balance sheet along with your sales tax filing? I’ve never once been asked to submit a gross balance sheet alongside my sales tax returns...

Thanks a million. Honestly, this whole situation is just a mess—my access to the CDC website was up and running the very same day, but as for Medicare... I’m honestly speechless.
I just sent them a formal complaint. I made it pretty clear that if we're expected to follow those eight-day rules, then they need to hold themselves to that same standard on their end. It's only fair.
I know deep down that won't actually speed things up, but they really ought to hear how much this is messing with us.

So, I dropped off my power of attorney for the online Medicare portal at the local office back on April 9th. By the 15th, I got an email notification saying my documentation was all cleared and ready for pre-activation—so, when does the online service actually kick in?
Every time I ask, they just give me the runaround—they claim they have no idea when the digital service will be live and tell me I might as well just show up in person at a branch. Honestly, it feels like even the staff doesn't know if my access has been activated or not.
The thing is, I really don't want to trek down to a physical office if I can avoid it; it’s not exactly right around the corner from me, and I’m trying to get everything handled from my home office.
I'm wondering if this is some sort of versioning conflict—whenever I launch their SuperJam client and log in using my security key, it says "Connection Successful," but then as soon as it tries to pull up any data, the window snaps shut and throws a "Connection Terminated" error. If anyone here has dealt with this, could you let me know if that means my account is actually active and I'm just dealing with some glitchy software—maybe a Java issue or some weird driver mismatch—or does it mean the service hasn't actually been provisioned yet?

Carol Price4 said:Honestly, this deserves a PUBLIC reprimand—how can you say women haven't been working? Do you seriously not count things like laundry, cooking, and cleaning as actual labor? 🙂

And for the record, I have to report that I spent Monday working my tail off, just like so many other accountants out there...

I'm right there with you. Between baking seven different kinds of cookies, prepping the Easter ham, dyeing eggs, and ironing holiday outfits... when am I supposed to find time to actually file my taxes with the IRS?!

Everywhere you look, it’s nothing but flashy packaging with absolutely zero substance inside...
It’s a good thing we aren't all total pessimists—if we were, we probably would have all lost our minds by now.
As the great Vlado Brkanić once put it—something along the lines of: "The administration is acting like an orchestra on the Titanic—they just keep playing while the ship goes down."

Stopping by for a coffee here for the first time, and I have to say, I’m really enjoying the vibe.
I just wanted to chime in quickly regarding that thread about online banking—since I’ve managed accounts for five or six different banks personally and professionally—for anyone who doesn't deal with a massive volume of transactions. In my experience, Chase is hands down the best choice. You don't need to mess around with card readers, physical tokens, USB sticks, or those annoying little sheets with PIN codes. They just have you install their app on your phone (which is free), and your phone essentially acts as your secure token—anytime, anywhere.
It’s honestly a game-changer. As a small business owner, I’m looking at roughly $2.75 per month for online banking plus $6.75 for account maintenance. On top of that, they include monthly electronic statements for $0.33/page, which has basically cut my overhead in half compared to the big national banks I used to use—the ones that offer $6.75 limited online access but then nickel-and-dime you for every little thing... To get set up, all you really need is your business registration paperwork and an ID (unlike some places, like the Chamber of Commerce, where they demand a whole new set of certified documents from the registry, which costs extra, not to mention the nightmare of paying $10 monthly plus $67 one-time setup fees).
Now, if you have a huge volume of transactions, Chase might end up being more expensive, but if your transaction count is relatively low, this is definitely the way to go. Those fixed fees at other institutions are just too steep for small contractors and freelancers.
Hopefully, this helps someone out!

So, if April 10th is officially the final day of a three-year maternity leave—per the formal paperwork—and there's already been a verbal agreement that the job ends once that period wraps up, would a mutual separation agreement actually be dated for that specific day?

I had no trouble getting through with Goldman Sachs at first, but now I’m hitting a wall trying to navigate the access list over at the Social Security Administration.
No matter which link I click, it just loops me back to the instructions—and those instructions tell me to click on the access list right on the homepage, but there isn't actually anything by that name on the homepage. Does anyone have a direct link? I’m honestly losing my mind here...🙂

How are you all handling material expenses for small business owners who actually manufacture their own goods? Up until now, my routine has been to record the purchase value of materials for resale as an expense every month—but I haven't been booking the actual invoice amounts for raw material purchases directly as an expense. Instead, I’ve been routing everything through inventory first—moving it from raw materials to work-in-progress, then finally to finished goods ready for sale.

When you're looking at interest payments on business loans—specifically if you took out a loan just to cover tax liabilities or other government debts to avoid an IRS levy—do those interest costs qualify as a deductible business expense?
