Accounting for Sole Proprietors: Tax & Bookkeeping Tips in Business, Accounting & Taxes ·
Hey everyone. Sorry if I’m double-posting this on two different threads, just trying to get some eyes on it.
Since I can't find a single decent example online for how to fill out the Joppd forms for small business owners, I’m hoping
some kind soul out there can walk me through this... :-)
Up until now, I've only been filing Joppd for non-taxable receipts, but does that go along with the Joppd for contributions
or am I supposed to send them separately? It’s for a solo proprietor with zero employees, so the Joppd should be
identical every month, but I really need someone to show me what this first one is actually supposed to look like and which boxes to check. There are plenty of guides out there
for everything else except this specific thing :-(
Thanks in advance!

So, I’ve got this small business owner who rents out a condo—it’s his personal property, not tied to the business at all—to regular folks. Since he’s registered for sales tax, he’s gotta issue rental receipts, but obviously without the sales tax tacked on. Now, the tax hit isn't some flat 12% deal; it could swing anywhere from 12% up to 40% depending on how much he actually pulls in by the end of the year. He’s looking to write off actual expenses related to the place to lower that burden. I'm trying to figure out what qualifies here... we talking utility bills, interior design stuff, or what else?

Hey everyone, look, I deal with this mountain of tiny little expenses all year—utility bills, random office supplies, stuff like that. I don't bother putting these through my KUI to claim the input tax because honestly, it's just not worth the headache. Instead, I just dump them straight into the KPI. My question is, since I’m not using the input tax in the KUI, am I allowed to book the full amount including the sales tax, or am I stuck booking it without the tax? Hope that makes sense... :-)

Thanks for the input, everyone. Seems like a lot of you are still waiting on your sales tax processing too...
Usually, it takes maybe a day or two, so I was starting to get a little twitchy. I even tried calling the IRS help line and my local agent, but nobody had a clue what was going on, so I just told them:
What am I supposed to call, the Secretary of the Treasury? Honestly, we’re all so buried under these endless new forms and constant rule changes that
it's hard to tell who's actually running the show anymore. It feels like one constant headache, just trying to make sure everything stays above board... I swear, my heart skips a beat every time some tiny detail
doesn't line up perfectly, meanwhile these corporate crooks get millions in tax breaks handed to them on a silver platter. :-(

Hey, I could use some eyes on this too. Anyone here actually checked if their monthly sales tax filings have been processed yet?
Mine’s been stuck in "pending" for two weeks now... kind of weird, right?

I tried to file my sales tax paperwork today, but I noticed their system is still running on the old rates—they haven't even updated it to reflect the new 13% bracket yet.
Is anyone else actually able to get their filings through, or am I just having a nightmare with the IRS website?
