Quick question about Breakdancing... in Hobbies & Leisure ·
Chloe Alvarez7 said:For instance, when I was 16, I tried hip-hop classes for about a month...

and... well, I gave up. At that beginner level, the class was filled with eleven and twelve-year-olds, and honestly, I just couldn't stomach following all their rigid rules or drilling basic steps. Now, I just dance for the pure joy of it—for my own sake, and only that. 🙂

My suggestion? Find someone who actually lives and breathes this stuff, and have them walk you through the core fundamentals of Breakdancing. Once you've got the basics down, you can practice on your own.

Where I used to go, there were plenty of Bboys, and the ones who really made it were the ones driven by a constant desire to improve. They were always the first ones in the studio, putting in an extra thirty minutes of work while everyone else was heading home.

Dancing is about passion... you shouldn't view it as some sort of chore or homework assignment. If your heart is truly in it, nothing is impossible, even at 23 years old. Just loooove it! 😁

Keep it going!

I really admire your enthusiasm for dance. 🙂 I completely agree that you should dance for the sheer pleasure of it; that’s exactly why I want to learn a few moves—so that when I am dancing for fun, it actually looks like something! 🙂

Keep it going, two steps forward, one step back! xD

Is there anyone out there? 😁

I haven't lost my way—everything makes perfect sense—but would you mind providing a link where I can actually pick up some MuscleTech or Optimum Nutrition? Ideally, I’d love to find a physical storefront where I can just walk in and buy it rather than having to deal with shipping an order online.

Like someone else mentioned earlier, they're going to absolutely rip you off if you shop locally here. You can find MuscleTech at a few spots near downtown or over by the local community college, but the markups are ridiculous. Your best bet might be checking Craigslist or similar sites, unless you feel like driving across the border to get a better deal on a massive tub of MuscleTech for a much more reasonable price.

If I could offer some advice to someone out there:
I've been hitting the gym for a little while now (since about last September or October) and I'm looking to pick up some protein. Does anyone have any solid recommendations? (I don't play any specific sports; I'm just training strictly for muscle mass)
By the way, I'm 16...
I would have read through this entire thread, but honestly, 120 pages is a bit much for me to digest right now🙂
Thanks

You really can't go wrong with either Twinlab or Optimum Nutrition. I've sampled quite a few different brands, and personally, I think Twinlab is the best, though my roommate swears by Optimum Nutrition—they both have great reputations generally speaking.

Regarding how long you should be training, since I saw you asked earlier... I found that I get the absolute best results when my sessions last about 50 minutes, no longer (I used to pull 90-minute sessions sometimes). That is, unless I'm working legs or shoulders, in which case the workout runs a bit longer because I tend to take longer rest periods.

But don't overthink it too much. I usually aim for 1-8 reps per set, with 90 seconds of rest between sets, doing about 4-6 sets per exercise. That’s just a rough outline of my own routine; personally, I often stick to 1-5 reps with 120 seconds of rest and 5 sets per exercise. I run a split routine consisting of chest/biceps, back/triceps, and legs/shoulders. For those first two groups, I do three exercises, but for the latter ones, I do two (except for shoulders, where I do one movement each for the front, side, and rear delts).

As for milk, I personally stay away from it because I find it's not great for me, but that's a whole different conversation, so I won't get sidetracked.

If anything I said wasn't clear, feel free to ask. I realize I've thrown a lot of information at you at once, and I wouldn't want you to get lost in the details.🙂

Just a quick question, though maybe I'm overthinking it xD

What do you all think—is it too late to start getting into Breakdancing at 23?

Or is age actually irrelevant compared to other traits or physical abilities? If so, which ones matter most?

I’m mostly just looking to do my own thing, maybe jam out to some records and hang with a crew. I have zero interest in the competitive scene unless, by some miracle, I actually turn out to be talented. 🙂
