Larry Lewis said:Look, regardless of why you’re asking—and frankly, I don't think that matters much at this stage—you haven't actually laid out the full picture. You haven't really delved into the specifics of what happened or provided any real context regarding his behavior—though, then again, maybe that's for the best. It’s all a bit of a muddle, isn't it? Anyway, it doesn't matter.
There is one fundamental truth you simply have to grasp—one that seems to escape most people wandering through this life—and that is that every single individual is fundamentally different, regardless of whether they carry an official diagnosis or not. Honestly, the idea of being "perfectly healthy" is a complete myth—a bit of a fairy tale we tell ourselves to feel secure—because, let’s be real, nobody is truly, entirely "healthy." We are all walking around with our own unique set of glitches, baggage, and quirks. I remember talking to a colleague back in Chicago years ago—a brilliant man, really, though he had his share of struggles—who used to say that "health" is just a sliding scale of how much chaos you can manage on any given Tuesday. And he was right. Whether you have a label attached to your psyche or you're just dealing with the general wear and tear of existing in this chaotic world, we're all essentially navigating our own version of brokenness. It's just the way it is.
I honestly have no idea how you managed to arrive at that particular diagnosis—whatever your process might be—but you really ought to understand one fundamental thing: doctors issue medical diagnoses, not amateurs playing pretend. It’s a distinction that seems to escape some people, yet it remains quite vital. I remember once dealing with a specialist back in Chicago who spent twenty minutes explaining why my "self-diagnosis" was nothing more than wishful thinking—and he was right, of course. Professionals undergo years of grueling training for a reason; they aren't just guessing based on a few symptoms and a hunch. One shouldn't simply bypass the experts with amateur intuition.
If you’re asking for my two cents regarding your love life—and believe me, I’ve seen enough heartbreak in this weary world to fill a dozen lifetimes—I would tell you to proceed with extreme caution. Just... be careful. You might even consider nudging him toward seeing a professional—a therapist or some specialist who can actually untangle that mess in his head—but let’s be honest, he’ll likely recoil at the suggestion. He’ll probably take offense, turn it around on you, and act like you're the one being unreasonable—which, in these times, feels all too familiar. So, my advice? Take a long, hard look at everything. Don't just listen to what he says—words are cheap, after all—but watch what he actually does. Study the patterns. Analyze the actions. Once you've weighed the reality against the rhetoric, then, and only then, should you decide how to move forward.
If you've got the stomach for it and want to keep talking, we can take this to private messages.
Larry Lewis said:That is a heavy, incredibly difficult question to parse—really quite profound—and if I can offer anything from my own weary experience, it's simply this: the illness changes them. It's an undeniable factor.
Do you really think his emotions aren't grounded in reality at all? How much of his "paranoia" do you think is actually just a byproduct of the condition? (He’s constantly spiraling—accusing me of cheating, claiming I lied about things like whether I've ever even been pregnant. He just has this fundamental issue where he can't distinguish between when I'm being honest and when I'm lying, etc.)
Don't go thinking I'm asking this for some selfish reason, because I promise you, that isn't the case here.
I’ve recently crossed paths with someone who, in my estimation, is dealing with schizophrenia (and let's just assume for the sake of argument that I'm right, okay?)—but here's the kicker: they haven't been diagnosed, and they aren't seeking any kind of treatment whatsoever.
My question is this: how much of the person I think I know is actually "them"? To what extent does this illness warp their core character? And if they finally decide to get professional help and start treatment, how much will they actually change? Most importantly, when it comes to how they feel about me, how much of that emotion is genuinely theirs, and how much of it is just a byproduct of the disorder?
Thanks in advance for any insight you can offer.
Haha, this happens to me all the time. I’ve got several email accounts sitting there that I can’t even get into anymore. Honestly, there are moments when I feel like my password for everything is just going to be "password"...

(I was going to send you a DM, but since you’re the one who kicked this thread off, I figured you’re probably keeping a close eye on it anyway)
Look, Zoltan and Morgan are great, but this part right here absolutely floored me: "Beppo reacted the only way a real soldier can in a situation like that: he told the army, the state, the anthem, and the flag to go straight to hell, tossed his rifle as far as he could, and bolted in the opposite direction."
By the way, is there any way to fix those weird accent marks on your site? They’re driving me crazy.
To be honest, I don't read much—work keeps me way too busy, you know how it is... 🙂—but I am actually going to make an effort to dive into your posts. Hand on heart, I haven't been this captivated by someone's writing style in ages. If I recall correctly, the last time I felt this way was reading Chuck Palahniuk. Ugh, I shouldn't have said that out loud; now you'll get an ego, then comes the ego trip, then the creative block... Anyway, you're definitely worth a read.
And no, I'm not buying the book. I don't buy books. The reason is simple: I move apartments pretty often, and I really can't be bothered hauling around pounds of extra luggage. Plus, the last time I tried, I ended up losing my entire collection of Erica Jong.
But if we ever cross paths, drinks are on me.
Good luck with everything.

Ryan Wood98, you have my eternal devotion. Seriously, your writing style is pure genius...

one of the most powerful monologues ever put to film
My bad—I didn't realize before that there were specific rules about what actually qualifies as a "speech" for this thread.
Edward Norton - 25th Hour
😠 I swear, this whole situation is driving me insane. There is absolutely no way I'm staying up until it finally airs, and that’s a massive blow because this is easily one of my all-time favorite series.
I am just completely and utterly frustrated. 😠
Ugh, I honestly don't know how I'm going to survive the wait for this new DVD release...
I found out the news on this blessed forum last night and ended up sprinting to the local Target before they closed, which meant I was wandering around in the dark for ages... 😍
No shit, Sherlock Holmes....🙄
No, you're missing the point entirely. It feels more like a contraction, or maybe some kind of muscle spasm or a pulsing nerve... But look, I’ve never dealt with anything even remotely like this before, so yeah, I'm freaking out. Okay?
Something is thumping, drumming, pounding—how do I even describe it?—about two inches to the left of my belly button, deep inside my abdomen.
It’s not painful, it doesn't bother me, but it is incredibly weird. It's been going on for two days now and honestly, I'm starting to wonder if some kind of alien is trying to claw its way out of my gut.
Does anyone have any clue what on earth this could be?
I just finished watching this movie for the first time, and honestly, I am absolutely floored. Maybe I don't have the most pretentious taste out there—I'm not looking for some high-brow masterpiece just for the sake of it—but I just want a film that actually sticks with me. You know? Something that leaves you with that lingering feeling, where you’re just sitting there in the dark after the credits roll, still processing everything.
Look, I’m a huge advocate for affirmative action... I mean, isn't taxation just another form of positive discrimination? At its core, the entire social welfare state is built on that exact principle. You could have Donald Trump complaining that his corporate tax rate is stuck at 20% while some guy like John Doe running a flower shop in Sioux Falls only pays 10%. But hey, that’s just the price the privileged pay for their privilege.
Anyway, like I said, I support positive discrimination—to varying degrees, depending on how many marginalized groups an individual belongs to.
So, to answer your question, here’s a hypothetical:
If you have three applicants for the same job, all with identical qualifications—a white guy in his mid-thirties, a Black man in his late forties, and a Jewish woman in her fifties—and they are all equally capable of doing the work, I’m giving the edge to the Jewish woman. She hits three different marks: she’s a woman, she’s part of a minority, and she’s older. That’s three layers of intersectional oppression right there. Of course, the very fact that, in a vacuum, the thirty-five-year-old white guy would be the one hired is exactly why this kind of action is necessary.

Oops, my bad—I think we had a bit of a misunderstanding there! I haven't actually sat down to watch the third one yet, but I am definitely going to get to it as soon as I can find the time. What I meant was that I loved both of the previous films; they were absolutely fantastic!
I absolutely loved this movie. It’s got such solid foundations—for instance, you've got Brad Pitt constantly snacking on something. And every single time they try to explain something to Matt Damon, they go, "And, well, you absolutely must never..." only to have some distraction pull his attention away right then,
Alright, I have a quick—and honestly, kind of a stupid—question for you all. Where on earth are you guys buying your soy and split peas? I spotted some at a local health food store earlier, but the prices were absolutely insane; they were charging over five bucks for less than a pound! How much are you actually paying, and where do you go to find decent prices?
Thanks in advance.
