Lately, maybe for about a year now, right before I drift off to sleep, I swear I see smoke coming out of my mouth. I can see it clearly. Most likely, what I'm experiencing falls under hypnagogic hallucinations, but who knows how it works for everyone else. A friend of mine used to have these altered states of consciousness all the time since she was a kid—always while she was wide awake. Then, around age 23 or 24, she suffered a severe seizure that eventually recurred. So, in her case, there’s probably a direct connection between the two.
