Thompson or Tom? in Close to Politics ·
Charles Peterson said:Well, if you’re going to ask me that, then please—do walk me through your own definition of what "Americanness" really means to you

It’s impossible to put into words—you either have that sense of being an American deep down, or you don't. It's just one of those things that can't be explained, right? ☕
Charles Peterson said:Does that mean the crowd is going to stop cheering at every little thing, too? 😕

Look, this thread is strictly about Thompson and Tony. If you’re itching to debate the crowd at his shows—or whatever other drama you want to stir up—go ahead and start a new thread for that.
Charles Peterson said:Alright, then I guess I’ll just opt out of being an American—because if being an American means you have to be a fan of Thompson (and silentbear39, you still haven't actually given me your personal definition of what it means to be an American, though based on this, I think I've figured it out), then I'm out. Apparently, being an American just means living in the past and staying bitter about it forever.

🙄 And I’m sure we’ll all be sitting here weeping about it—as if that actually matters.

Charles Peterson said:No, you're totally missing my point—or maybe you just don't want to see it—so I don't even feel like getting into the weeds with an explanation here.
Look, just do me a favor and compare a single Thompson concert to a Justin Bieber show—and I’m not just talking about vocal range, I mean the whole vibe, the energy, the entire atmosphere...

Fair point, there's really no comparison. Putting a Thompson concert next to a Justin Bieber show is like putting an Iron Maiden gig up against a Tony Cetinski performance ☕

But honestly, it feels like you’re just leaning toward the Tony Cetinski side of things, isn't it? Is it because teenage girls scream a bit louder?

Charles Peterson said:No, no—it’s not just about the vocals for me... since I actually sing myself, I honestly don't think you can even call Thompson a singer. The way he "sings" doesn't really fall under the definition of singing at all.
And Drew Brooks8, I am right there with you on everything you said.

So, what are you saying then? Are Bob Dylan and Balašević not singers to you either? 🤣

Charles Peterson said:Honestly, trying to compare Thompson—who sounds like he’s perpetually battling some sort of stomach flu and desperately needs a bathroom break—with Justin Bieber (who, if we just look at the musicality and ignore everything else, was actually a trained musician) is just straight-up tragic.

OMG, you're the tragic one here 🤣

Let's play by your logic then. Since you clearly only care about vocal ability, is Robbie Williams or Celine Dion a "greater artist" to you than Bob Dylan? 🤣
Or maybe you prefer Hanka Paldum of Balašević? Good for you! 😁

Drew Brooks8 said:I actually went out of my way to listen to this "Curse of King Zvonimir" track by your local hero Thompson, and honestly? I’m still not seeing any artistic merit here.🤷His vocals are just mediocre; trying to compare him to Tosh is actually hilarious.🙄

All I can say is hats off to Thompson and his manager for figured out how to milk your patriotism to line their own pockets.👍

Just because you can't see the artistic value doesn't mean it isn't there.
Look, sure, Thompson doesn't have some massive, earth-shaking voice, but people don't listen to his tracks for vocal gymnastics—they listen for the lyrics and the actual songwriting.
And as for Tosh's beautiful voice? You're right, he's got a great tone, but half his songs are just generic pop garbage. You can tell by his fanbase—it's mostly just teenage girls, right? It's all about that smooth sound and a pretty face to them.😁

Since when did we decide that a singer's quality (aside from opera singers, obviously) is judged solely on their vocal range? Do you seriously think someone like Bob Dylan or Balašević is somehow "lesser" than Proeski? Because, let's be real, their voices are Incomparable to Proeski's in terms of raw power.☕

As for those "purists" who claim to love the wild—cosmopolitan eco-conscious Antarctica isn't really their scene anyway.

BTW, they could probably try being a bit more civil and polite.🙂

Some people aren't even here because they care about Antarctica; they're just showing up to pollute the "territory" for reasons we all know too well.

It's a shame...

What kind of nonsense are you spewing? Nobody is buying that.🤣

Lisa Morales4 said:So, my brilliant friends, have any of you actually spent some time chatting with the folks down in Antarctica lately?

Did you realize that the US and Antarctica were actually part of the same landmass millions of years ago? Back during the era of the supercontinent Pangea and later during Gondwana, they were essentially one single piece of earth:

Both Antarctica and the US share very similar geological structures and soil systems.

In fact, up until the 19th century, people used to refer to Antarctica as Terra Australis.

Regarding Antarctica territorial claims ... when you look at things through the lens of ecological preservation, scientific research, and protecting the local flora and fauna

District of Columbia

Do you even realize what "australis" actually means?😛
