Well, in my situation, staying or leaving makes a world of difference... I'm not trying to play the damn savior, but I want to help my husband—is that really such a crime? I’ve looked at the situation and decided he’s someone worth fighting for. Whether it actually works out or falls apart is out of my hands at this point, but I do believe I have some influence over the outcome...

There are men out there who will walk away from their wives regardless of whether they are healthy or sick—that's just a reality, not a generalization. I am simply speaking from my own experience and sharing my perspective; at the end of the day, every woman gets to make her own calls about what she does and how she does it.

Look, if you think it would help, I can send you a book for your brother to read—you won't find this one sitting on any shelf at Barnes & Noble, obviously; I had to track it down online. My husband actually ended up agreeing to go through with his treatment only after he finished it. It’s a raw, honest account of a gambler’s life—all the highs, the crushing lows, the mounting debts, and the struggle to pay them back—plus the perspectives of people who have lived through it all. It's all based on true events, which is what makes it hit so hard.

Gambling is hands down the fastest-growing mental health crisis of our era—honestly, I don't think most people even realize the sheer scale of what we’re facing in just a few years. So many people have already spiraled into this addiction, and it feels like we're just seeing the tip of the iceberg regarding how many more will get sucked in...

Forget obsessing over some seasonal flu outbreak; if we want to actually protect our future, we need to start looking at this epidemic instead!

Adam Miller46 said:Regarding gambling addicts: mentally, they are just children. They are surrounded by people, like family, who always swoop in to bail them out when things go wrong. This is counterproductive because it only fuels the addiction. These addicts can manipulate anyone, even sacrificing their own kids. I wouldn't recommend any woman tie her future to someone like this, even if the addiction is just starting. And I certainly wouldn't advise any woman to raise children with a husband who acts like a child. The only real answer is to let them hit rock bottom. Let them struggle to afford bread. Let the people they owe money to come looking for them. Only when they thank God they are still alive will they finally step into the adult world.
A child can play and be reckless because they are forgiven for being young and having little control over their lives. But it is insane to expect an adult—who is legally responsible for their own actions—to be constantly forgiven just because they were "playing around."

I have to disagree with you regarding the idea that leaving a husband with a gambling problem is the definitive answer. In my view, walking away might just push him even deeper into the hole of addiction. It’s easy to say "just leave," but it isn't always that simple. I don't know if you're speaking from personal experience or what your specific situation looks like, but personally, I see leaving as an absolute last resort...
