So, turns out the RAM was the culprit. I pulled one stick out and just hung out on YouTube, searching stuff and watching videos, and the PC didn't freeze at all. But then I swapped them—took the first one out, put the second one in—and the computer would boot up and then immediately lock up on me. I guess I don't know if my RAM is still under warranty or whatever, but I'll probably just take it back and ask for a replacement. Thanks a ton for the help!
Hey everyone! So, I just put together a new build: -MSI H310M Pro VH -Asus GTX 1050 Ti 4GB ddr5 Nvidia -RAM 2x8GB DDR4 2400MHz -WD Blue 7200rpm 1TB -Intel i3 8300 I’m running into this weird issue where the whole thing just freezes out of nowhere. Like, the screen stays totally frozen on whatever was there, and nothing responds... not even the keyboard. Caps lock won't toggle or anything. I think maybe it even locked up once while I was sitting in the BIOS, if I remember right. Any idea what's going on? CPU temps seem fine, and all the fans are spinning quietly like they should. I'm wondering if it could be a RAM issue... some guy sold me two sticks that are supposedly the same brand and specs, but one is black and the other is green, and they look slightly different physically. Plus, I think they were manufactured a year apart. Right now, it usually hangs when I open YouTube and start typing stuff into the search bar, or sometimes just when I launch Chrome. When it freezes, even the reset button does nothing—I have to hold the power button down for like 5 seconds to force it off. If anyone can help me out, I'd really appreciate it. I spent a decent amount of money on this rig and I'm pretty lost on what's actually wrong.
So, does anyone actually know of a decent program to just totally wipe my hard drive? Like, I want to format the whole thing clean before I go ahead and reinstall Windows again.
I took a look and, honestly, there’s nothing there. Everything looks totally clean to me. I mean, maybe the issue is with Service Pack 1? I'm running Windows 7
So, I've got this weird situation where about 10GB is just... gone. Like, vanished from my hard drive and I have zero clue why. I feel like I've looked everywhere, man. I even checked System Restore, but that wasn't it. I actually went ahead and turned that off, and now it's only taking up maybe 1%—like 2GB or something. I don't know, maybe it's just a glitchy drive? Or maybe I should be turning something else off? Honestly, I've reinstalled Windows so many times lately that I'm wondering if I've just left a bunch of digital junk scattered everywhere. Also, does anyone know a solid program that can totally wipe a drive clean? You know, like a factory reset where nothing can ever be recovered, kind of like when you first buy a drive, so I can just start fresh with a clean Windows install?
I tried digging through my BIOS to find it, but there’s nothing there... just settings for the CPU. I checked the CPU fan too, and it's hooked up to those three pins, so I can tweak the speed using Fan Expert, I guess. Can anyone walk me through how to actually lower the voltage? Like, is there some kind of software I should be using for that?
Hey everyone. So, I grabbed this case fan to help pull some air into my rig, but now I’m dealing with a bit of a headache. The thing is way too loud—like, obnoxious levels of noise—and I can't find a way to dial it back. I've already poked around in the BIOS and tried messing with SpeedFan, but nothing seems to stick. It's just a standard mid-sized fan, and my system definitely sees it; when I jump into the BIOS, I see it listed under the CHA FAN header, and the RPM is just... massive. HOW DO I SLOW THIS THING DOWN???
Hey everyone... so, uh, I think I've run into a bit of a weird one. That little icon in the bottom right corner—you know, the one for the free upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 OS—it just totally vanished on me. Not sure what happened there, honestly. Does anyone have any idea why it would just disappear?
So, first things first, I’d probably grab a power supply. I saw this GigaTech 530W one at the store with this massive red fan on it, it was about $67—uh, I can't really remember the full model name, sorry—but would that be a decent pick if I went for it? Also, how exactly am I supposed to hook up that Intel APU and GPU setup you were mentioning? And man, any idea what I'd be looking at for some Kingston HyperX 1866MHz 8GB (2X4GB) RAM?
So, it says I've got 4 cores and 8GB of RAM running in dual channel. My Transcend stick shows 4096 MB at 800MHz, but then there's this Kingston one sitting at 4096 MHz and 667 MHz... or something like that, I guess. Is it even worth trying to swap in some better RAM? I was thinking about picking up a new GPU, more RAM, and maybe a 1TB hard drive since my current one is totally maxed out. I'd love to just keep the old 500GB one and slap a 1TB drive right next to it—is that actually doable on my motherboard? Also, any ideas for a decent cooler? This thing is way too loud and honestly doesn't seem to be doing much cooling at all. I'm trying to figure out how much this whole mess would cost if I wanted to keep things pretty cheap. And do I really need to ditch my PLATINUM MS-400ATX P4 power supply ?
So, I was downloading this game, right? And then I ran one of those hardware info tools, and it’s telling me I have 2 physical cores and 2 logical processors. Is that... normal? I guess I'm just confused about how it's counting things.
Thanks, I appreciate it. But, uh, I was reading around some forums and saw that my AMD A8 is basically on par with an Intel i3. And apparently, an i5 has 4 physical cores, while an i7 has 4 physical and 4 logical ones—so 8 cores total, right? I guess... do I actually need to swap out my RAM? Also, does anyone know why they messed with my RAM like this in the first place? Not sure what the deal is. Like, what's the max MHz my motherboard can actually handle, and what kind of RAM should I probably be looking at for my setup?
So, I’ve had this new PC for about a year now. Here’s what’s inside:
1. AMD A8-5600K 2. ASUS HD6670 3. ASUS F2A55-M LK2 PLUS 4. 8GB RAM at 1333MHz 5. Toshiba 500GB
First off, the RAM situation is kind of driving me nuts... one stick is bigger than the other, I guess. The larger one is a Transcend and says it's 4GB at 1600MHz, but then there's this smaller Kingston stick that just says "remowe" or something, and it doesn't even specify if it's 4GB. I mean, I guess I should ask—is this setup actually okay, or did they just throw random parts together? Also, from what I gather, this AMD processor only has two physical cores and two logical ones, right? So, I was wondering if there's a version with four physical cores that would actually fit my motherboard and be decent for gaming? And maybe, just maybe, anyone knows how much it would cost to grab an 8GB kit of 1600MHz RAM (or faster, if my board can even handle it) along with a new 4-core processor hitting at least 3.50 GHz?
So, my rig is actually pretty beefy, or at least it feels that way to me. Here’s what I’m running: MS case 8GB RAM @ 1333mhz HD 6670 2GB DDR3 500GB HDD AMD Athlon II X4 ASUS Prime Motherboard MS Platinum 400W PSU
I’m honestly kind of nervous about hitting up the local computer shop. I want to pick up a new cooler, but I'm worried it might be as loud as my old one or just won't fit right. Mostly, I just need something to drop those CPU temps down because my PC actually shut itself off on me once. What am I even supposed to say to the guy behind the counter? I don't want him to sell me some cheap junk and then I have to sit there listening to a jet engine every time I'm playing Battlefield 3 or MW3.
Is liquid cooling actually pricey? Like, can I even run one on my ASUS Prime Motherboard, and what am I looking at for a price tag? Also, do I seriously have to swap out the water every month, or is that just a myth? And is it silent... I mean, really silent? I guess I'm wondering if it actually performs better than my current Cooler Master setup.
Do you think this cooler is gonna be 100% silent? I’m really aiming for a dead-silent build, just total peace and quiet inside the case. Also... I guess, can I actually mount this on my own motherboard?
