I was watching some old-school highlights the other day, and it hit me how different the mentality used to be. It feels like nowadays, everyone is so focused on being "professional" and playing it safe that the actual grit is disappearing. You see these players who are technically perfect, but when the pressure is on, they just look like they're waiting for someone to tell them what to do.
It’s like the "yes-man" culture has seeped into everything. You want players with actual personality—people who are willing to clash with the coach or demand the ball when things are going south. I’d much rather see a team with three or four massive, difficult personalities than a squad of polite guys who all just follow the same script. One guy standing up for himself can change the whole energy of a locker room.
Is it just me, or has the drive to be a "leader" been replaced by a drive to just be "reliable"? Do you think we're seeing a decline in genuine competitive spirit because the system is too focused on smoothing out the edges?
